At first, everything was going well - the communication was good, and accessing the building was easy. However, on the second day of being in the apartment, I started getting really bad bumps on my skin. Unfortunately, we discovered bed bugs and the owner offered to switch us to a different building. Despite this offer, we decided to stay as the owner assured us that someone would come over to clean and eliminate the bugs. However, upon our return from waiting at a cafe, we were shocked to see that the cleaner had washed the bed covers, towels, and carpet together in the machine, which was unhygienic.
The situation took a worse turn when I realized I had only booked the place for 6 days, not 8. The owner reacted angrily, putting our belongings out and speaking to us disrespectfully. His behavior was alarming, and a phone call revealed his prejudiced attitude towards us.
I’m a teacher at one of the most prestigious K-12 schools in the U.S and I visited Paris because I’m in charge of organizing a trip there next year and I was so busy trying to visit as much place as possible and get all informations needed for next year. I should have been more attentive to my booking details. This encounter showed me the unfortunate reality of encountering discrimination and disrespect from some individuals.
Thankfully, I did not patronize his restaurant, as his behavior was unacceptable. It's disappointing to encounter such behavior, especially when trying to enjoy a visit to a new place.
