About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

The Little Owl Cabin at Mt. Rainier

Little Owl is your Pacific Northwest cabin fantasy. 20 minutes from Mt. Rainier National Park, White Pass Ski Area, and some of the most breathtaking hiking on the West Coast. Amenities include a cedar soaking hot tub, WiFi, Weber gas grill, top notch cookware, hi-fi sound system, A/C & heat via mini split, deck and balcony. We're just 2.5 scenic hrs from Seattle and Portland, and we're dog-friendly.

Our cabin is immediately adjacent to National Forest land, and just yards from Coal Creek. We're 5 miles from the entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park.

There is a king bed in the upstairs loft. Downstairs, we have a bunked twin above a queen, and a comfortable day bed in the living room. You're also welcome to camp on the deck.

There's a half bathroom in the loft and a full bathroom downstairs.

Our kitchen is fully appointed: Appliances, pots, pans, utensils, coffeemakers (drip and french press), milk frother, kettle, Vitamix and burr grinder. We also have a gas grill on the deck.

In the winter, you're welcome to use our wood stove.

Small children are not allowed in the upstairs loft or on the bunk bed.

We try to combine the best features of our personal hotel and Airbnb stays as we design our cabins and your guest experience.

For us, that means we're sitting silently on the sidelines until you need us. We'll make sure you have everything you need to locate our cabin and get comfortable with minimal fuss. You don't need to contact us about your arrival or departure times, and likewise, we won't be checking in with you unless it seems helpful or necessary. We assume you'd rather just get on with the business of relaxing and enjoying our home than swap messages with us.

If you're good with that arrangement, we'd love to host you!
We love hosting, and we want you to have the best possible experience here. To that end, it's critical that every adult in your party reads and acknowledges these policies and rules.

IMPORTANT: BY BOOKING WITH US, YOU AGREE TO ALL OF THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS. FURTHER, YOU ENSURE THAT EVERYONE IN YOUR PARTY WILL ABIDE BY THE FOLLOWING POLICIES AND RULES.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

We strongly recommend the purchase of travel insurance for your own protection. We will not make refund/cancellation policy exceptions for reasons of illness, accidents, injuries, family tragedies, etc.

DAMAGE DEPOSIT PRE-AUTHORIZATION

Per the rental agreement when you booked, we will pre-authorize a $600 damage deposit for the card on file at the start of your stay. Your card will not be charged unless there are damages, and the authorization is released within 4 days of your departure.

UNREPORTED GUESTS

Double check the guest count on your reservation. Each guest beyond 2 is $25/person X total nights of your booking, no matter how many nights the additional guests actually stay. If your party size exceeds the number of guests reported and paid for in your reservation, then you need to notify us before you arrive. Otherwise, each unreported guest will incur a charge of $50/person X total nights in your reservation, deducted from your damage deposit; and party sizes that exceed the maximum number of allowed guests will incur an additional $150 penalty. No adjustments made for variable guest counts: if you book for 3 nights and you only have additional guests for 1 night, you'll be charged unreported guest penalties for all 3 nights.

GENERAL HOUSE RULES

Don't even think of throwing a party here. If your plans include keg stands, beer pong, Jackass stunts, loud music, or any other Animal House fantasies, please keep looking. You'll get evicted, annoy our neighbors, and forfeit your deposit. We promise, it will suck for everyone.

Check-in/out time is as stated in the listing. We cannot accommodate requests for early check-ins or late check-outs, no matter the season or circumstances.

Flushing anything but pee, poop or toilet paper is the surest way to ruin your stay and forfeit your deposit. You'll back up the septic system, which could have really foul consequences. The minimum charge to clear a septic clog is $500.

Maximum occupancy: 5 people at Chateau Marmot; no more than 4 at Little Owl and Pine Marten; and no more than 2 adults + one small child at Chickaree and Pika. Only registered guests are allowed on the property. Children aged 3 and up count as guests. Parties larger than stated in your reservation will be evicted and extra guest fees will apply. See Unreported Guests, above.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources often restricts outdoor fires in the summer to prevent wildfires. Burning during a fire ban is dangerous; the penalties are severe, and any violators will be reported and evicted without negotiation or compensation. We'll put a large magnet on the refrigerator when there's a burn ban in effect; however, we also encourage you to check the Lewis County Blog for the latest burn ban restrictions throughout your stay.

The land surrounding our cabin is home to a vast array of wildlife. Cougars, bears, bobcats and coyotes have been seen around here. Supervise your children and pets very closely.

Amplified music is not allowed anywhere on the deck or in the front yard. This includes portable outdoor speakers.

The forest is as fragile as it is breathtaking. Be mindful of your footprint, and please do your part to respect and preserve this special place. Don't harm the trees, dump waste, litter, or burn anything outside of the fire ring. Bag your pet's poop every time.

Do not put anything but people and bathing suits in the hot tub. Soap, sand, candles, or just about anything but people will damage the equipment and result in a steep charge to your credit card on file.

As the registered guest, you're required to share this information with others in your party and take responsibility for any damage(s) they might incur during your stay.

Firewood and other emergency supplies are provided for emergency use only (such as a power outage). If you use the emergency supplies during any other time, a $50 replacement fee will be deducted from your damage deposit.

PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY

We're no longer allowing couples' professional photography sessions, no matter how casual or brief. This includes ceremony, elopement, wedding, getting ready, honeymoon and other similar photo shoots taken by a professional photographer/videographer. You're welcome to take photos of course, and we hope you'll tag us @littleowlcabin when you do; but professional wedding/couples' photography is strictly prohibited for reasons that are too many and varied to explain here. Before you send us an inquiry, please know that our heels are totally dug in on this one; we will not consider exceptions.

Use of the cabin for any other type of photo/video shoot that's conducted by a professional video/photographer will require a written approval, signed agreement, and fee in addition to the nightly rate. You'll need to contact us outside of this booking platform before booking. Any products or services you're proposing to shoot must align with our look, brand and values. Send us an email with a description of what you'd like to shoot, and for whom you'll be shooting, and we'll get back to you.

Please know in advance that we take this policy very seriously, and that violation will result in immediate eviction without negotiation or compensation, and possible legal action that will require you to appear in small claims court in Lewis County, WA.

SECURITY CAMERAS

We have one exterior security camera overlooking the driveway. You'll be recorded as you come and go. If you're uncomfortable with this, please get in touch before booking so that we can make an alternative arrangement. There are absolutely no cameras anywhere inside the cabin.

EVENTS

We cannot host events of any kind, of any duration, no matter the guest count. This includes weddings, elopements, and receptions. Please, do not send us a booking request for your event--we cannot make any exceptions whatsoever.

PETS

You may bring up to two dogs with you to Little Owl, Marmot and Pine Marten; and just one to Chickaree and Pika. We don't charge pet fees, because in our experience, dogs are at least as good as their people at leaving no trace. That said, if Fido is a big shedder, please bright a lint roller and brush with you--and use them--to avoid an added cleaning charge.

We love the kitties, but not the claws and allergens. Cats are not allowed on the property.

SMOKING (TOBACCO AND CANNABIS)

Our indoor smoking ban includes tobacco, cannabis, e-cigarettes, and vaporizers. If we smell smoke or cannabis, you can expect a claim and charge to your credit card.

SUBLEASES AND TRANSFERS

Your booking is non-transferable, and no right to sublease is allowed or implied. The guest of record must be present at check-in and check-out.

WINTER DRIVING

We are accessible year-round from Seattle, Portland and points east. We don't get as much snow as you might think. For most of the winter, we're at least 1,000 feet below the snow line. That said, we'll still get a good blast of snow about twice a year, between December and April. We recommend AWD/4WD in the winter months, but if you've got front wheel drive with good tire tread, you'll probably get around just fine.

LOSS OF USE

If the violation of any of these terms and conditions should result in damages that would require the owners/operators to take the property out of use for a paid stay(s), then guest shall be liable for 100% of forgone revenue resulting from the loss of use, in addition to damages.

HOT TUB RULES

Do not introduce anything but people and bathing suits into the hot tub. Doing so will compromise the water quality and put your party at risk of illness.

We urge you to take a shower prior to entering the hot tub.
Make yourself comfortable in this vacation home, which features a fireplace. There's a private balcony. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.
Enjoy the recreation opportunities such as a spa tub or make use of other amenities including gas grills.
Guests will find features like onsite parking.

The cosiest cabin in the woods to explore Mt Rainier
This cabin is the most idyllic A-frame in the woods, sometimes it just doesn't look real. The inside has been decorated in a cool rustic mountain style, so much that it feels like an actual home. The attention to detail is great. It’s also one of the most spacious A-frames we’ve ever stayed in, using the space to maximum effect. The kitchen is a decent size, and is well stocked. The beds are comfy, and there’s room for two people to unpack their stuff in the extra bedroom downstairs. The half bathroom upstairs was also much appreciated in the night. As someone who has stayed in a lot of hotels and rentals, I’m also pleased to say there were finally enough hooks! Relaxing in the hot tub or sitting by the fire amongst the trees after a long day hiking in the beautiful surrounding wilderness and National Park, was the best way to end the day. Note there are two cabins visible from the front yard, but these were second homes so weren’t occupied during our stay. The back deck is completely private. We had a fabulous time here and can’t recommend this place enough.

Outstanding Mt. Rainier Cabin
Little Owl is located in a gorgeous setting convenient to Rainier sites. We loved the babbling creek behind the property and the national forest views were breathtaking - a very special place! The cedar hot tub was a nice and welcome touch for soaking after long hikes. The steep ladder to the sleeping loft was no joke but worth the effort to stay here. We would definitely stay again!

Adorable house with very secluded feel!
Overall, this property is very charming, well maintained, and has a good number of amenities. We enjoyed our time here. Although the neighbors are very close, they have done a spectacular job setting up the cabin so that you feel very secluded and have privacy from all parts of the house. For me, the only cons were the number of rules associated with the stay and the comfort of the beds. After booking we received a link with lots of helpful information but also with quite a number of rules. Although it was just myself and my husband and we had plans for a quiet stay, the number of rules made me anxious about doing something wrong or missing something during our stay. The beds were also extremely hard. It was a rough night of sleep and for that I was grateful we were only there one night. If we were to stay again I would definitely bring some kind of pad to place on top of the mattress.

Peaceful & serene
We wanted a relaxing place to stay close to Mount Rainer & we got it! The cozy A-frame cabin was the perfect place to stay. The Little Owl Cabin nestled up against the Pinchot Forest was breathtaking beautiful. The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The decor was unique and cozy and was the perfect place to fall deep into nature. The sound of the stream in the backyard from the cedar soaking hot tub was the perfect way to end our days after hiking. Our family had the best stay. Can't wait to come back!
