Stayed for 2 nights with my wife for our honeymoon vacation.
The Good:
* Food was amazing. I can't compare but the kaiseiki dinner was excellent. Had shabu-shabu wagyu, and BBQ pork on two different nights. And the breakfast, some reviews said it was small, but for us Asians, it was already a huge spread, from buttery smoked fish to strawberry yogurt.
* Service was really good and professional. I could see they really made an effort to try to speak English. There weren't a lot of foreigners when we stayed.
* Room was pretty clean. Traditional ryokan with a solid bathtub. We were facing the lake, and but there were trees blocking the view. We got to see a pack of monkeys though.
* Onsen! tried all 3 different temperature springs. My only regret is only going there 3 times. A must-do after a day's touring.
The Bad:
* Location - seriously, don't believe people saying that you can walk from the bus stop (heck, there's is no proper bus stop with roof). Probably in the morning, yes. But 6pm, with your luggage, with the only light coming from the hotel's signage and the moon? Nope! The location's very secluded, and it's a good getaway if you have your own car. Good thing the hotel has a pick up service if you give them a call. Tip: use Skype or Viber call credits if no SIM card
* Price - I wouldn't rate it as 4-star hotel, more like 3 or 3.5. But the price they're asking is for a 5-star hotel. We only ended up with this hotel cause we booked late during peak autumn season
