We had a wonderful time in Newport and staying at the Chart House Inn. The Ida Lewis room was perfect - nice bathroom, spacious room, comfortable bed. The staff was extremely welcoming and nice. Breakfast in the mornings was a nice, delicious touch. I would recommend Chart House Inn to anyone I know traveling to Newport due to its great location and attentive upkeep
I had such a lovely stay at the Chart House Inn. I would definitely recommend this stay to visitors in the area. Staff was very nice and wonderful to talk to. The room was clean and private. 5 stars all around!
Everyone was very helpful and really great to communicate and work with. The food at breakfast was our favorite part. Amazingly delicious food, the best food we had our entire stay, and we ate at several restaurants in the area.

Great location and delicious breakfast, but we stayed two nights and they didn’t make our b d or clean the shared bathroom. Trash cans were full and dirty towels were left in the bathroom and no towels were replenished.
Very nice place, beautiful historic house right in the heart of Newport, walking distance to tons of shopping/dining/experiences. Nice rooms, friendly and welcoming stuff, delicious breakfast. We glad we picked Chart House, we had a perfect stay.
P.S.
If you're coming to Newport from Providence, take the ferry, beautiful views and very impressive arriving through the bay area.
We had an amazing time. This far exceeded expectations for a B&B but it makes sense now that I understand the Stoneacre restaurant group is involved.
It was quiet, comfortable, wonderful appointed per Newport historical tradition... amazing location.
I absolutely recommend the Chart House Inn!! One of the most enjoyable stays I’ve had: excellent food, great location, wonderful staff, and so close to town and attractions!!
During our stay, we learned that the bathroom was a shared bathroom.
We are a family of veterinarians and dog lovers. My wife and I used the restroom during the night and noticed that the bathmat was wet. We thought that another guest must have showered. In the morning, we saw that it was indeed a dark pet urine stain on the white bathmat from the owners dogs who live on property. At breakfast, the dogs greeted us, which was adorable. We learned that the dogs stay in the small kitchen area where the food is prepared and served. We found this to be unsafe and offputting and refrained from eating there the rest of our stay.
The dining and common areas are charming. The furniture in the formal sitting room is picturesque. The overall condition of the interior of the house is fair to good. The furniture in our room was not in great condition.
Location is desirable, setbacks being that the property is directly across from an artillery museum and on a narrow one-way street. Because the museum transports cannons for historic events, we were unable to enter an exit the street at times, or stuck in the car as we waited for them to unload.
Dining was challenging. My wife has a dairy allergy that we communicated to our server and she returned with yogurt parfaits. We were served a beautiful assortment of french pastries that were stale and had been warmed up to conceal that they were a couple of days old (also containing dairy). The breakfast area is lovely and has potential.
Very roomy lodging with a comfy sunroom. Fantastic gourmet breakfast. Very welcoming & friendly hosts. Location just off Thames street in the center of Newport near multiple restaurants & shoppes. Great experience!
Owners not there on arrival ,they didn’t think anyone was checking in !!!
No chef for breakfasts as he was given the time off !! Upgraded our room ,but not what we really wanted !!!!
Wonderful and charming inn with friendly staff. Upgraded to larger room for no charge. Breakfast outstanding! Great location from which to explore Newport.
The room I booked did not have its own bathroom. This should be made more visible at the time of booking. $150 per night for a shared bathroom is giving a hostel vibes at not a hostel price. We were traveling from CA to RI for a wedding and needed the room available early to get ready. We were also forced to cut our trip short due to a family emergency and would not be using the second night of the stay. The day before we were supposed to arrive, I called to follow up on the two emails I had sent with no response. I began to mentioned the early check in and was getting ready to ask about the second night, when she interrupted me and said ‘the room is not going to be ready, but you can come here at noon and park’. I was a little confused and overwhelmed because I did not need to park, I needed to get ready for the wedding, I also had not finished my sentence. I explained to Nicole that if the room was not going to be ready early, and we were already coming back early I was not sure it made much sense for us to go. I asked about cancelling the entire reservation, when again I was met with an interruption where she explained to me that she was a small business owner, could not refund any of the money. She offered to give me credit for the second night, but I explained there was very little chance we would ever be back in Newport. I was again met with an interruption and the jarring statement “it sounds like you have some things to figure out".
