Boutique, 3 bedroom lodge in the heart of Northumberland with private hot tub

The Snug, a cosy lodge perfect for relaxing breaks in Northumberland. Unwind in the hot tub and feel at home with deluxe kitchen and living area.

Enjoy a relaxing stay in The Snug, a boutique, three bedroomed lodge set just inside the Northumberland National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Ideal for star gazing on a clear evening - perfect while sat in the hot tub on the private veranda - the National Park was awarded a gold tier international award for the largest Dark Sky Park in Europe.

It is situated in an exclusive park with a number of other lodges, 1 mile from Otterburn village. There is parking for two cars next to the lodge, and wooden steps up from the driveway lead to the decking area and front door. The detached, Norwegian pine lodge sleeps up to five guests. Ideal for a romantic break, relaxing with friends or a fun time with family. All bed linen and towels are supplied.

The 500-acre woodland estate is surrounded by nature at its best. There are two lakes and the ‘Otter-Burn’ within the grounds. An array of footpaths with stunning scenery and an abundance of wildlife are close by. Enjoy watching the varied selection of birds, local red squirrels visiting your balcony and spotting deer wandering around the park.

Otterburn village is a few minutes drive away or a pleasant 20-minute walk along a footpath trail through the fields. The village boasts Otterburn Castle, a manor house founded in the 11th century by a cousin of William the Conqueror and the luxurious and highly acclaimed Le Petit Château. Explore the church, dedicated to St John the Evangelist, and afterwards why not enjoy a bite to eat at the local restaurant? For something closer to Otterburn Hall Estate, why not take a stroll to The Coach House bar and restaurant, which is literally 100 metres from The Snug, with an excellent menu and lounge bar.

The Snug offers a cosy base for exploring the many delights this friendly county has to offer, including Kielder Forest and Observatory – home to the biggest man-made lake in Northern Europe and the largest working forest in England, and Northumberland Heritage Coast – a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with tranquil islands, wide beaches, marshes and saltflats, coves and cliffs to explore.

A day trip to Alnwick with its famous castle and beautiful gardens make it a perfect day out. Hadrian’s Wall is only a few miles away and is steeped in history with Roman Forts and museums along the way. The historic and beautiful Abbey at Jedburgh, only a 30-minute drive away, is just over the border into Scotland. The market towns of Rothbury and Hexham have plenty of pubs and shops. Outdoor pursuits are a huge attraction in the area and a favourite location for walkers and adventure seekers. Shop, bistro pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Great hosts and a beautiful location
Sara and Chris were the perfect hosts. They really made our break away something to remember. The Snug had everything we wanted and more besides. The Valentine treats were a lovely gesture and much enjoyed. My little girl slept on her rose petals every night! Everything was so thoughtful from the extra bird and squirrel food to the sliders for use in the hot tub, which we also loved. We loved the walk to the lake and had a delicious meal in the Coach House, but the highlight was our 'pet' red squirrel who appeared on the decking every morning. My little one had never seen a red squirrel before!. Already looking to come again. Thanks again Sara and Chris. X

Lovely Cottage
We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Snug. Cottage is beautiful inside, and the owners clearly put a lot of thought it to making the stay enjoyable, with a welcome basket, board games to play, and a booster seat for the littles. The cottage is within a lodge park of about 15-20 similar cottages. There’s a nice walking path within the lodge. Re: staying during pandemic. The cottage was clean, and the owners clean the hot tub between guests. Hand sanitizer was available. For future guests, recommend doing grocery shopping before you get to the town of Otterburn (there’s only a small convenience). There’s one place that does takeaway option in town. The restaurants seemed nice, but didn’t seem like they offered outside eating options. Hope that helps.

Excellent Stay!
Had a little break away with our teenagers who were home from uni. Perfect size for a family of 4, beautiful lodge with everything you needed no issues what so ever. Only constructive feedback would be to have an illuminated lodge name / sign on door. Also would be useful if the park itself was to have a few signs as we spent more than half an hour in the dark trying to find the lodge, lucky we had a torch in car.

Weekend in Otterburn lodge
The accommodation within his lodge is of a good standard, and adequate for a nice short break. Everything is as stated within the forwarded details. Although Ideal for a family of 4, would feel a little cramped if 6 stayed. Really good points that the hot tube is always cleaned to a good standard and we did love the wild life visiting the red squirrels were a real highlight of the stay. Overall a nice choice.
