We stayed here with a group of 4 adults and 2 small children over a long weekend in August. This is a property with a lot of potential, but there are some things that anybody considering staying here should be aware of prior to booking.
Pros:
Large above-ground pool, nice hot tub. A large canvas for shade covering most of the pool. Both were clean and well-maintained.
Good location - Very brief walk behind the property to a nice view over the lake. There are neighboring properties but the house and cabin felt secluded, lots of trees for privacy. 5 minute drive to several boat ramps on Canyon Lake
Separate cabin/main house
Outdoor fire pit and grill area (it's a charcoal grill, not propane)
Cons:
It is an older home with no central HVAC (window unit A/C only). There are several units in the main house that do a pretty good job of keeping the house cool. There is only one window unit in the cabin, and the owner advises not to turn the unit below 75F or the unit may freeze. If you like it cool when you sleep, the cabin is probably not for you.
No WiFi
No dishwasher
Due to the home's age, most of the windows/doors are not well sealed. There are screens on the doors and windows, but bugs still have a pretty easy path into the house. There were spider webs in about half of the corners inside the main house, and all over the outside of the house, cabin, and porches. All of the window screens are plugged with dead bugs.
We were advised by the owner to bring our own pool towels, lighter fluid+charcoal, firewood, and cleaning supplies. These are also simple amenities that would add to the comfort of guests. We were left with only 2 trash bags for 4 days and ran out quickly.
Overall, we had an OK visit and very much enjoyed the pool and outdoor areas, but we never really felt comfortable or able to relax due to the bugs and A/C issues in the cabin. Bugs are going to be prevalent outside given the location, but more could be done at this property to try to keep them outside of the house/cabin. It seems that some small upgrades (replace/add a window unit in the cabin, clean the window screens periodically, have the doors refitted or add better sealing around the frames, etc.) would go a long way to ensuring the comfort of guests.
