Host cancels just before arrival.
I have to defer the condition and experience at the PLACE to those that have actually stayed here. As far as my experience with this PERSON I cannot rate it poorly enough.
I usually don’t spend much time on reviews like this, but what happened to me/us is completely childish and disrespectful in my opinion that I feel compelled to share how awful this experience was. Here’s my story:
We reserved the place in the early fall for a January stay. We placed 50% down at that time.
A couple weeks prior we noticed that the listing had been taken suspended. I reached out to the host and asked if we were still good for our upcoming stay. He replied by stating that everything was good for our stay and a few days later the listing was back up.
A few days before arrival the host requested the remaining portion of the payment. I paid the final portion and requested check in specifics (security codes, parking, etc...) and heard nothing back.
The day before arrival the host texted me and asked what time my party would be arriving. I responded later that day with our planned arrival time and again asked the host about the check in specifics and heard nothing back that evening.
We had a 10 hour drive. About 3 hours before our arrival I received a notification that our reservation had been cancelled. Thinking I was a mistake I texted the host and again inquired about the status of our reservation. Nothing. No response.
I called. Left a voice message. Nothing. No response.
I called the other number on the listing. Left a message. Nothing. No response.
To this day I still have no explanation why this reservation was cancelled and have not heard from the host. Thankfully our money was refunded (a week later), but the inconvenience is what I’m upset about.
I get that there are occasions for cancelling at the last minute (maybe a fire or a mechanical failure?). I could even understand that perhaps he was able to rent it for more that weekend that he was getting from me. Still not cool, but I get it. Perhaps a family emergency, which doesn’t seem like it should affect my rental, but OK I get it. BUT YOU OWE ME A RESPONSE!!! Cancelling on people like that with no explanation at all is wrong and disrespectful. Especially when they are about to arrive at your place! Imagine if you were flying here, landed and got that cancellation message. BS!
Do not rent this place, this could happen to you too!
