Excellent location close to Kintetsu Nara Station and Nara Park. The room was really nice and the futons were super comfortable. Room amenities were nice.
The only complain was a weird smell coming from the room’s private bathroom.
Staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, Ryokan is within walking distance of Nara park, plenty of dining options nearby, and it's located right outside of the train station.
The Ryokan is great! It's very quiet and easy to relax. The service is very good, I don't speak much Japanese but they made sure I was taken care of. The onsen is very nice. The restaurant is amazing, they have high quality beef and also the best dessert - kintoki!!! I can't wait to stay here again!
I wanted to experience a ryokan while I was in Japan. The Tenpyo Ryokan provided that. The service was good. Since we arrived before check-in time, they held our bags for us and put them in our room for us. The room was clean, and as hoped with traditional furniture and comfortable bedding. The bath was clean and relaxing. The yukata was very nice quality. Breakfast was delicious. They had traditional Japanese music playing while we ate which was refreshing. Everywhere else we had been seemed to only play 80's pop music. The location is great to shopping and touring. I would highly recommend.
The Ryokan was perfectly decent. The major problem was that neither of the two staff members spoke any English at all so that we were unable to get any help with basic things. There was for example a very noisy fan in our small room which we could not turn off through the night. The hotel is centrally located but it is in a shopping mall for anyone who was looking to experience something different.

Four people in tatami room
We were four people in a tatami room, everything went smooth and people were friendly. The room was clean but windows had no view. Access to the hot water bath went through a backdoor, but the bath was clean and comfortable. The elevator was convenient but closed very quickly, which was difficult to use with baggage. The location is very close to Nara park and many restaurants within walking distance.
Good experience to sleep on the floor and sit like japanese people. It has very comfortable cushion actually for bed. Not very used to the sitting since we are old and hard to bend legs :)

IN an amazing location right next to the Nara Kintetsu train station and in a shopping arcade with a great choice of food. The room was Japanese style .Pretty squashed . Fairly expensive with no breakfast offered compared to other local hotels . Friendly service

Recommend because of location
It is very close to the train station and lots of stores. Location is great but it can get hot in the room during summer vacation. The public bath hour is too short and not hot spring. But breakfast is delicious and service is good.
Tenpyo Ryokan is convenient for travellers arriving on a Kintetsu train from Kyoto or elsewhere - virtually right at the station. The limo bus to the Kansai airport is just across the road. The Todai-ji temple is a one km stroll away through a scenic deer park that would please Bambi.
However, check in time is 4 pm - but staff will secure bags for you while you meet deer friends in the park. Futons in room are a generous thickness and the bath house is beaut. Perfect location for a brief Nara experience.
This Ryokan is about 2 minutes walk from Kintetsu-Nara Station. The location is great and it was along the street of shops. This street is all shops (Daiso, supermarket, local product etc) and restaurants.
Ryokan came with a public bath. Although the public bath is not big but is sure for relaxation.
This Ryokan is not flexible when comes to check in and check out. The check in time is 4pm and check out is 10am. We reached the Ryokan at around 3.45pm and the counter staff told us that we are not able to check in until 4pm sharp.
Our stayed came with breakfast, Japanese style. Taste great.
Overall, we had a great stayed at Tenpyo Ryokan,
The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were very good. Overall we had a wonderful experience other the following incident.
On April 21 Fri my wife and I left hotel at 7:45 am for a walk to the conference I was attending at the Todai Ji museum (15 min away). When she came back at around 8:30 am the cash (a little over JPY60,000 or ~ US$ 600) we put on top of the table was gone. Honestly we did not remember whether we have the door locked when left in the morning. We reported to the hotels owners around lunch time (wife did not realize that till noon) and they were surprised too. This was our fourth trip to Japan and we thought Japan was a very safe place and did not expect this to happen.
Anyway we could have done better to keep the case with us. But the incident did make a dent to an otherwise nice trip.

The Tenpyo Ryokan was our first stay at a ryokan, and we found it to be a great introduction to the ryokan style. The staff were polite and patient with our very limited Japanese language skills, and the room was spacious and clean. We unfortunately never got a chance to try the onsite public bath due to our sightseeing schedule, but the ryokan's location makes it excellent for said sightseeing in Nara. The yukata and futons were both comfortable, and the onsite laundry was a lifesaver. Overall, a great stay!
