Rainbow Lodge - exceptional lakeside log home

Summary:
Rainbow lodge is an outstanding log home located at the water's edge on Freestone Lake at Wilson Ranch, close by the Freestone Inn. Wilson Ranch is an exceptional Mazama location, situated just before the road starts to climb to Washington Pass. The lodge is a single story 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom, well-appointed home, that sleeps up to 4 people.

The Space:
Rainbow Lodge features an open plan great room, with open ceiling, log beams, and a riverstone fireplace (with propane stove). The space includes a well equipped kitchen, farmhouse dining table, writing desk, couch, three easy chairs, and TV. The great room opens onto an expansive covered back porch with views onto Freestone Lake.

There are two master bedrooms at opposite ends of the lodge for added privacy, each with a king bed, their own ensuite bathroom, and bay windows with seating nooks. The larger of the bathrooms features a separate tub and shower. There is an additional guest toilet on the main level.

Ideally suited for two couples. Located directly on the Methow Valley Community Trail, guests can cross country ski, snowshoe, hike and mountain bike directly out the back door. Enjoy birding from the spacious and private, covered, lakeside deck, and fly fishing at the catch and release Freestone Lake.

The Neighborhood:
The lodge is located on the Wilson Ranch, home of the Freestone Inn and a number of private cabins.

It’s a 17 minute drive to the Cutthroat Lake trailhead, 19 minutes to Washington Pass and 25 minutes to Maple Pass trailhead (*drive times according to google maps), making this one of the closest nightly rental cabins to the North Cascade National Park with its many world-class hiking trails. Ideally located for beating the crowds and snagging a trailhead parking spot at peak seasons.

The Mazama Store, with its great bakery and ‘a little bit of everything good’ is just a 5 minute drive or 10 minute bike ride from the cabin; around 20 minutes by ski (depending how fast you slide and glide). Mountain bike and ski rentals are also available in Mazama.

The old west town of Winthrop is 15 miles and under 20 minutes drive down valley, with its great shopping, bakery and dining establishments; the Shafer Museum is also worth a visit to learn about the local history. Winthrop has a fun ice skating rink and is the jumping off point for Methow Rafting’s raft and float tubing on the Methow River. Winthrop’s annual calendar of events includes the Rhythm and Blues Festival, Vintage Car Rally, Memorial Day Rodeo, and Christmas At The End Of The Road (check the town’s website for details).

Getting Around:
Getting here: May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over highway 20 and Washington Pass (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate, and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Bluett Pass, or highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). Combine these routes and you have the scenic Cascade Loop. Nearest major airport is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (247.0 miles).

Getting Around: it’s a 5 minute drive into Mazama. Winthrop is under 20 minutes drive / 15 miles south on 20. Methow Motion provides a private car service throughout the Methow valley. Methow Trails' Sandy Butte Trail, and Methow Community Trail both go through the Wilson Ranch Property giving convenient access to the Upper Methow Valley trails.

Rainbow Lodge
Quiet community about 15 minute drive from more developed town (Winthrop). Good fishing, rafting and tubing opportunities in area, as well as hiking and Nordic skiing. Very spacious, peaceful and comfortable lodge.

Three night getaway
Beautiful property and great location for hiking. Fully stocked kitchen. Just disappointed the TV and gas fireplace didn’t work. I think being fixed. But other than that lovely and wonderful area to walk in Mazama. Wish we lived closer. Enjoy.

Ski Paradise
The home was set a short walk from the best trail for cross-country skiing in the Methow Valley. Afterwards, we walked 50 yards to the Freestone Inn hot tub to relax. The house was well equipped and roomy, with internet good enough to stream current movies through our computer and watch on the home's TV. It was a wonderful place for a cross country ski vacation for 2 couples.

Peaceful and Perfect
Very high quality construction of log cabin, high quality everything, even the fine dishes and glasses. The peace of the lake from front porch was just what we needed for a 2 day get away. Thanks so much!!

Cozy cabin, great location
This cozy cabin has everything you need for a relaxing vacation. There are lots of great hiking trails nearby. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need. Wi-Fi works great and lots of games for evenings. The back porch has a view of the small lake. There is a pizza place within walking distance. We look forward to staying again!
