Feel like getting away from it all?
The Treetop Eco Apartment is the top floor of the Treehouse Marigot Bay, totally separate from the apartment called the Garden Studio on the lower floor. The apartments are totally independent the one from the other, well insulated against noise and completely private with separate entrances.
The Treetop is set at the top of terraced tropical gardens offering wonderful views of the Caribbean sea with its spectacular sunsets and moon sets and frequent rainbows. Many guesthouses in this area do not have direct views of the sunset and moon set and few are as close to the sea as the Treetop. Our position is something really unique. Even local people are amazed when they see our view! Bordering the tropical garden is the wild coastal forest with its multitude of birds and other wildlife and from the Treetop terrace you can see pelicans skimming the waters below, an osprey hunting fish and fishermen fishing from their boats.
The terraced garden in front of the Treehouse is home to a variety of different sculptures and many fixtures and fittings in the apartment have been created using wood from the garden or beaches or other salvaged materials.
The space consists of an open plan living and sleeping area including standard double bed, easy chairs and kitchen. There are two outdoor showers. There are mosquito net curtains which can be drawn across the triple door area and all windows have mosquito screens fitted.
Doing all of the cleaning and maintenance work ourselves, you will not be disturbed during your stay with us unless we can be of help or assistance. The wooden sinks are hand crafted and some parts are driftwood. The rugs are from old cruise ship mooring ropes.
We are committed environmentalists and our passion for nature drives everything we do. Unlike other guest houses we never use pesticides or insecticides but work with natural pest solutions. A network of fishpools provide an environmental solution to prevent mosquitoes breeding as the fish eat any mosquito larvae and therefore drastically reduce the mosquito population - this is in direct contrast to the common local practice of fogging for mosquitos with a spray made of neurotoxins and which is clearly toxic to people and wildlife alike.
We harvest our own water. The rainwater is collected in water tanks and double filtered before used in the house. It is cleaner than bottled water (which is polluted by its own plastic bottles).
We deliberately do not have a swimming pool. The dangers of swimming in chlorine are now well recognised, especially for anyone with allergies, skin problems or asthma, but it is obvious that swimming in chemicals cannot be good for anyone. Salt water pools are not a solution since they simply use salt to generate chlorine and the end result is the same. With two beautiful beaches either side of our house you can swim in a totally natural, chemical free environment whenever you want and enjoy the beauty of the undersea world with its corals, fish and other amazing wildlife. One beach is a secluded cove, ca. 15 minutes walk away, usually deserted with excellent snorkelling and the other beach is ca. 10 minutes by car (or you can kayak from Marigot Bay or swim round from the secluded cove) and is a wide sandy beach perfect for swimming and enjoying the waves.
We have planted our garden to encourage birds and other wildlife onto our plot and we have left the majority of the property wild as a conservation area. We are also planting many native plants such as orchids and air plants in our plot which have been rescued from development areas in order to protect them from destruction.
We love using driftwood, corals, shells and other items collected from the beaches around the house. The bed cover is made from antique hemp grain sacks from Hungary. We make our own glasses by cutting old wine and rum bottles and we have made upholstery covers from vintage coffee and potatoe sacks. We have now made beautiful rugs from cruise ship moorning ropes for all our apartments.
We work with local Saint Lucians who can offer a number of land and sea tours which are not on any tourist "programme". These are focused on local experiences and off the beaten track adventures. Once you have booked Airbnb will allow you to send us your email address and we can send a description of these out to you. We never take commissions and only promote local individuals, not companies.
We have written a detailed information sheet which we send out to our guests once they have booked with us with recommendations on where to go and what to do as well as a description of tours which can be designed with local partners. We can also assist you with car rental with a reliable local family-owned company. Also available for hire is our spare car, a small 4x4 Suzuki Jimny which is ideal for the road conditions here. Let us know if you want more details and as it is very popular with guests then you are advised to book it early!
Looking to welcome you at our little paradise.
