I booked this hotel "sight unseen" because it was close to the Tower Hill Tube station, which was very convenient. The hotel has quite a "young" vibe that may not appeal to the over-50 crowd (like me). The iPad used to control the lights, temperature, TV, etc., was very convenient and easy to use. I felt some features of the room were gimmicky (i.e. the combination shower/toilet 'pod' that turned different colours - why?) The staff are all quite young but very good at what they do, and friendly. The elevator doors can be unnecessary aggressive and tried to chop me in half once. The hotel was quiet and safe, and within good walking distance of shops, public transit, etc.
However, the cost for certain items at the canteen are outrageous. £3.80 for a cup of tea (there are no kettles or coffee makers in the rooms) works out to nearly $7 Canadian. Ridiculous. A large-size bag of crisps for £4 is $7.00 Canadian. £40 for a one-and-a-half size bottle of wine???? Give me a break. And yes, London is expensive but this is daylight robbery. Also, the elevator voice is practically Orwellian, a draconian fembot that declares "DOORS CLOSING" in a tone that recalls the Daleks from Doctor Who. What was the point of the photos in the room, featuring a nude young woman with a pineapple on her head?
I stayed here because it was convenient but I very much doubt I will do so again. The owners should concentrate less on gimmicks and more on customer service. Please put some kettles in the rooms.
