Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The location was not very central, but still ok, with some supermarkets and restaurants close by. The staff were all amazing and extremely helpful and friendly in suggesting things to see and do as well as just socialising and helping with booking transport etc. The hostel is quite old and the dorms especially are very minimalistic and somewhat run down. There was some issue with the air conditioning one of the nights, but it was sorted out for the next night. The bathrooms and showers were clean and there was a nice common area. The kitchen had the needed amenities, and I really liked the fact that they let you use the shower and kitchen even after you check out. It creates a very hospitable, generous, welcoming feeling :)
Personally, I loved this location. It was quiet, had plenty of convenience stores around, and the living area was so cozy. I can see how people not prepared for something minimalist may not enjoy this hotel, but I thought it was so fun. It almost reminded me of a summer camp, and the staff was super friendly!
Perfect stay for the price. Very practical and good location within the city. Also highly recommend the bike rental, as it's pricing is also superb (is this even a word^^).
A lovely, quiet experience with friendly staff. Not particularly social between guests if you're looking to meet a lot of people and certainly not a party hostel but if you want somewhere relaxing and calm to stay whilst enjoying your trip it's perfect! The hostel beds are nice and spacious enough for your bags to stay with you. Lots of nice places close to the hostel and train station's not far so we didn't struggle location-wise. Thanks for having us!

Liked: Staff & service
i didn’t like that there was only two showers downstairs (our room was upstairs.) I also didn’t liked being charged a fee when we arrived but that’s understandable. The house was nice otherwise, just fairly old and not very sound proof.
The hotel is very old and dirty. The bathroom is very small and inconvenient. The hotel has gas heater in the reception room. They said it is safe but the smell is very strong.
Great affordable accomodation. We stayed in a Japanese style private room, with very comfortable futon beds. The hostel was close to buses, convenience stores and some shrines as well Nijo castle. We were able to rent bicycles for 500 yen and bike around the city. Downtown Gion was a bus ride away and was great at night with plenty of shopping of dining out options. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend!
I chose this hostel because it was the only one left in my price range when I was getting close to my trip, and for its central location in the city. I personally enjoyed this hostel more than others on my trip in Osaka, and found Kyoto to be a magnificent city. The hosts at the hostel were very friendly and helpful, and work to help provide a home-like atmosphere with group meals as optional purchases (for cheap, and very good) as well as musical instruments made available. The place itself feels like living in a Japanese home, complete with me hitting my head on things and tripping over changes in height of the floor. All things considered, very comfortable. The bunks were comfortable and with ample storage although sound carries very well through the thin walls. All in all a great atmosphere, I felt like I was at home and would stay there again.
My favorite guesthouse/hostel so far. The building is a traditional style accommodation. I stayed in the dormitory and the bunks are great because you have your own storage locker. I enjoyed the staff too who are very helpful.
