The cottage house was the original house of the Markward estate. It consisted of three rooms - a kitchen, dining room, and a bedroom. John Markward lived in the cottage while building the main house for the love of his life, Miss Adelphia White. The main house was completed in 1881 and John and Adelphia were married on the property in 1882. In October of 2016, the main house and cottage of John and Adelphia Markward Estate received designation on the National Register of Historic Places under the name of Markward Manor.
