Mixed experience
Overall, an ok stay. However our room was not ready on arrival at 3pm and we were asked to wait in a lounge area which was operating as an overspill area for a wedding which was difficult to negotiate with our luggage. Receptionist was very apologetic and chased housekeeping to get room ready as quickly as possible - just not the start to our visit that we wanted after a 5 hour drive!
Bedroom was fine - spacious with a comfortable bed , but shower a bit shabby. Breakfast on both days was good value at £12 but make sure you book the night before otherwise it costs a lot more!
Our experience on sunday evening was not good. The bar had run out of several beers as a result of previous day's wedding and they had decided not to serve bar food that day due to a shortage of staff, which resulted in a 10 minute wait to order a drink at the bar, as staff were working elsewhere. Common sense did prevail with the help of one staff member, we were able to order pizza which was on the restaurant menu and eat in the bar.
Overall a pleasant stay but merits an average rating rather than a good.
Parking was easy and free, as was wi-fi. The receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. Rooms were clean, although rooms were dated in some aspects. W r appreciated that the room was quiet and dark overnight.
The hotel was busy with wedding parties and other groups but an evening meal in the bar was served promptly and the breakfast buffet was kept well-stocked. Staff quickly attended to any small issues.
