The hotel was a self checknin and as we booked through a third party(Hotels.com) we disnt get a code to enter. We had to call a tel number on the board outside. After a few dead calls we eventually got a call back and were told the code. Woukd have been a better experience if we had the code. But was ok
Good: Quiet, convenient location, easy parking, comfy beds, really excellent breakfast.
Not so good: No-one on reception after 2pm, felt a bit unstaffed (but the breakfast crew were very friendly). Also, WiFi/TV reception was a bit hit and miss (but that's a first world problem, not a biggy).
We stayed 3 nights, found check in easy as code is last digits of phone number. Room was clean, tidy and cosy, plenty of space. Bed was a little to soft but was ok. Room a little dated but as under new management understand that in time they probably get updated, would hope plug points be closer to beds if renovated. Shame the bar area isnt open as we were down visiting and had to go elsewhwere to meet friends. Carpark ok but the potholes on way in are extreamly deep and had to avoid the van parked end of entrance also. Not so easy to manoeuvre around with the potholes also trying to avoid. Door from carpark into hotel could do with a soft closing spring as from 630 onwards all it done was bang with pwople entering or leaving the building. Breakfasts were delicious plenty of options and enormous helpings, could perhaps offer yoghurt and musili also. Will rebook when returning as good location for our needs and no noise.
Possibly the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at
Arrived no receptionist
Called to find no detials sent to access property
Finally got into room
Room tiny, damaged walls, bed uncomfortable and need to be 5ft to walk around room
Overall experience #shocking

When i first arrived at Dalesgate hotel staff seemed nice and pleasant but halfway through my stay thinngs changed and i felt i was no longer welcome and felt really uncomfortable with a stabbing feeling in my chest when walking around the place due to a sudden unfriendly vibe and animosity. Ive also a little Yorkshire terrior who also changed as he felt the atmosphere change around me and was suddenly scared and fearful of the staff. He would often lick his lips in fear and cling tight to me and would tough my face in fear he also felt the sudden bad atmosphere. On 4 occasions i was cold as they was no heating on a night and when i first arrived no problem would turn it on but halfway through my stay they said if my room temperature was hotter than outside i wouldn't feel any heat from my radiator which is rubbish as when its on u feel it as it was funny after the upset on asking it suddenly turned on in full ! This started to happen regularly and 1 manager as they where 3 said if yr not happy with no heating go bye a heater!!! .Thats the hotel job im the paying guest been there for 4 weeks,i pay there wages and its in with the cost. After having word's and telling him straight to so his job correctly i left. Wouldnt recommend as they tell u to buy yr own heater! Also i was refused room service and left till last and when yr paying £74.00 to £180.20 u want it right.
Only a couple of things that let it down 1, was the personal greeting when arriving which did not take place on this visit ( has taken place in the past). 2, Needed the bar open or requested when we came back from the event that we attended , for a nightcap. Otherwise it meet my requirements and I will visit again when in the area if someone answers the PHONE ( the main drawback). Hence only 4stars.
The hotel was ok until i found a dirty sock under the shelving in my rooom , so i checked the bed to.make sure it had been changed yes it had, but the sheet protector was not clean had hairs on it so i put it on the floor, but when i spoke in the morning to a member of staff she sorted the room , the choice of breakfasts was good ,service was good
Decent enough area with buses into town centre if needed or a 20 minute walk. Good parking, clean enough but very basic room. Tea and coffee making facilities. Fairly comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast by a lady who seems to have to run the place on her own. Overall stay totally let down by the fact no hot water was available either on the evening or in the morning so no shower and even the cold water ran at a trickle which in my opinion is totally unacceptable. Spoke to the manager/owner and whilst he apologised did not offer a refund of any sort. Would not stay again as my impression is this hotel is run from a distance and will only get worse in the future as it appears a little run down now.
Nervous about relying on an entry code but it all worked. Our room was at the top of the house under the eaves and there was very little headroom for a person of 6ft 4ins. Had there been a receptionist we would have requested a different room.
Breakfast was excellent.
Positives: Competitive price and a good breakfast. No issues with late check-in.
Negatives: Some problems with the door code entry but thankfully there was someone to speak to (at 9.30pm on a Saturday night!) so that was resolved quickly. Soft bed and hot room.
