One of three villas on a private, beautiful 5-acre orchard retreat in South Kona. Due to the elevation, the area is considered to have the best views in Kona displaying a combination of sloping hillside, shoreline and open ocean sunsets.
Kohania offers 3 inter-connected, yet private Villas - all with large sliding glass door openings onto a shared courtyard, pool and patio -connected by covered walkways.
The King Villa consists of a large master bedroom with build-in cabinets, large walk-in closet, and a large bathroom with garden tub and large walk-in tile shower. The master bath opens onto a private patio overlooking the pool ocean horizon. Other amenities include ceiling fan, TV, mini refrigerator, coffee maker.
Kohania is located in a rural area with abundant wildlife: wild birds, free range chickens and colorful/harmless geckos. In the evening, frogs chirp, while many find it to be relaxing - please consider bringing earplugs if you find them to be too loud while sleeping.
Due to the generally pleasant temperatures at an altitude of 1,100 feet above sea level Kohania does not have a central air conditioning or a heating system. Most guests report that the warm sunny days (70-80F, 21-27C) coupled with the cooler evenings (60-70F,15-21C) are comfortable conditions. Rooms include ceiling fans.
All buildings open onto a common courtyard which leads to the pool patio and Aloha patio, available to all guests. The Aloha patio is where you'll find the best views of the coastline and sunsets. Gather around the large 6 person outdoor dining table. Aloha patio and Pool are open to all guests between the hours of 7am-10pm daily.
Kohania Villas features a large swimming pool with lots of patio space to spread out. Pool depth is between 4' and 7' deep.
Children on the property must be supervised by an adult at all times.
The property is 100% solar and utilizes only off-grid generated electricity. During some periods of low sun or higher consumption, a propane generator will activate to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity. As needed, the generator may run between the hours of 8a - 6pm.
Since Kohania is off-grid, we utilize satellite internet with upgraded speeds available to all guests. At times, satellite signals can be diminished or interrupted due to inclement weather or other causes. Generally speaking, internet access and speeds have been adequate for normal use.
Kohania is also an active fruit plantation. There are over 14 types of fruit trees, including a variety of banana, mango, orange, lime, papaya, dragon fruit, lychee, rambutan and avocado. The fruits are known to be especially flavorful due to the 1,100ft elevation, warm sunny days, cooler evenings and ample rainfall to support the luscious gardens. Our property also includes free-range chickens.
During your stay you are welcome to participate in our harvest lifestyle and gather as many fruits and eggs for your personal enjoyment!
Each year approximately 15,000lbs of fruits are harvested from the 200+ mature fruit trees at Kohania. Please note that during harvest season (May-July) the harvest crews may be on site, so please allow the crews ample space to work.
Guests may walk the lower orchard during daylight hours. The orchard generally has taller grasses, rocky and loose ground. Please watch your footing and be aware of possibly falling fruits and biting insects.
The upper orchard, area beside the pool and above villas is off limits at all times. Do not go beyond fenced areas. For safety purposes, guests are not allowed near terrace walls or past the chained restricted areas surrounding the villas. Please be mindful of private spaces and restricted areas.
