Smelly room + poor breakfast

We stayed here before the KC marathon because it was close enough to walk to the marathon finish. Our room smelled like cigarettes and was very musty - so bad that our three year-old kept asking over and over what smelled so bad. The breakfast was a handful of bagels and nothing else. The comforter on the bed was as thin as a sheet. We are pretty low maintenance travelers, but I would not stay here again. The staff was very nice and helpful.

This was a fabulous hotel. The staff, specifically Jordan, was great. He provided recommendations and always very friendly. Location is great. It was older and therefore, older carpets and tile. It was clean but worn, but we would absolutely stay here again.

Place is in dire need of renovation. Beds, furniture, pillows all need to be replaced. Bathroom had a canted tp holder, towel bar was hanging on by the last threads. Cleaning was much to be desired. Also didn't like waking up to horrible bug bites that swelled up quite a bit.....

The location is terrific: close to Plaza, Nelson, etc, but not in the fray. Parking front and back is free. Spanish tile makes it look unique and it’s small, unlike almost every other hotel in the area. The staff is friendly. In the fall of 2025 they’re supposed to start a rehab, which should take care of the horrible old grout, failing bathroom fixtures and paint. The thick dust everywhere is really not excusable. The breakfast was pitiful, but maybe they’ll have better facilities after the rehab. If all you have is bagels and toast, you should have good ones. I would definitely stay here again after the rehab.

Loved looking out the window and watching the streetcars and city bustle and having the window shelf! The hotel had character with nice, friendly staff! The bathtub had a lived-in look to it, so I could see that some Americans used to newly remodeled looks wouldn’t suit them. I would love to stay again.

I was greeted by Jordan, who was very friendly and professional. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The hotel is due for a renovation, however, I find old hotels have a unique charm and beauty all their own. I did have to ask for soap for the bathroom, other than that my needs were met. The foyer is beautiful and comfortable, great to relax and just spend time in. 24 hour coffee, wonderful.

The hotel is a little dated, but they are a few weeks away from renovating. The staff was very friendly and exceptional and the rooms are very spacious and clean. Very nice hotel. Can't wait until their renovations are complete to stay again.

Jordan was wonderful and the most accommodating for our trip. However, the amenities weren’t anything to rave about. The breakfast options were minimal for already having a bagel bar, yogurt and oatmeal. The only ice machine was on the second floor. The bags for the pet area were empty. The room had boogers on the wall by the bed closest to the bathroom. The shower floor is chipping away. The ice bucket for guest was broken. My card had over $650 worth of pending charges when the room rate with the pet fee shouldn’t exceed $584 including taxes. Super inconvenient and I probably will never stay here again. I believe location alone is what we paid for.

Carpet dirty. Toilet refill valve whistles loudly and fills slowly. One towel and washcloth for two people and I was told to get at main desk. Loudly arguing men right outside at 2 and 4 AM. Area appears unsafe. Clerk at main desk has heavy African accent and speaks so softly I could not understand and she exhibited an imperious attitude. Sheets do not fit bed. Whole experience was miserable

Because it’s a rather busy street and there is a parking lot just off the street, we got a bunch of idiots dance and play loud music at that parking lot at around 1 am. I literally called the police. I highly recommend to bring a pair of earplugs. Also if possible change for an off-street room. The staffs were great tho, but breakfast was basically bread, bagel and yogurt. Not even milk. Room was a bit smelly I would say, but overall fine given its price. Location was fine, somewhat close to Westport and Nelson-Atkins. Very close to the streetcars (they aren’t loud if you’re curious) but the streetcars aren’t running yet. Also it could be just me I cannot find the hair dryer. I’m constantly confused by that, why is it so hard to find hair dryers in a lot of American hotels? Do they make people feel uncomfortable? If I had the chance to visit KC again I’ll pay an extra few dozen bucks to live on the ones closer to Westport. If they got too expensive then ok I’ll bring my earbuds. Bedding was fine and clean and also the hot water is functioning, and I get a private space.

The wonderful woman at the front desk (with the cool accent) on the morning of Oct. 3rd, 2025 was very helpful, empathetic and personable - even though she was dealing with a lot at once. Aside from the elevator troubles, the TV troubles, network difficulties, silly breakfast and run-down hallway and rooms interior, SHE was the best part. Thanks for having me.
