Cute little place and town.
Cute little place on the river. It had everything we needed, just needs a few updates like a smart TV and new mattresses. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Lovely place
This was our third time at this rental. We love the view of the river and mountain. The home is clean, with a couple quirks, like the upstairs tub faucet that won’t stop dripping, a dryer on its last legs and some very used kitchen wares, but all stuff that doesn’t rule out repeat stays. We’ll be back. A great getaway just an hour away from the suburbs.

Beautiful Location Outdated Cabin
The view is the only reason I would stay here, never had a more beautiful peaceful view but even that has cons. Pics make it look like you can walk out to the river, you can’t, steep drop off. Still beautiful blue river to gaze at. I understand this was affordable for us due to these cons but here they are. The cabin is rustic, needs a good remodel. Really disliked I booked through VRBO and then it’s run by Vasca so I had to get a whole new app just to manage everything. The Vasca cleaning crew leaves a little cleaning basket of dishwasher detergent and pods for a dishwasher that doesn’t exist! I don’t mind doing dishes but leave what I need to wash by hand not for something that’s not there. There is no AC and gets nice and cool at night if you know how to keep a house cool that way. The guests or crew before us did not and we arrived to a sunny stuffy hot cabin that took us a day to cool back down. Again location is the gem to this cabin, cons make it affordable but very rustic. Don’t plan on sitting down to chill with some tv at night, no streaming and very limited and outdated dvds.

Birthday at the River
We had a very nice time at this home by the river. You can’t necessarily access the river from the property but it’s a short walk into town and a short walk to a river access point. I can’t describe the beautiful views from the main level and the master bedroom. The beds were a little older and the uneven floors made it so we had to be a little creative with how we positioned ourselves in bed for sleep. It is rustic, and there were quite a few insects and spiders in the home. Overall the stay was great and I’d do it again!

Could be Better
House is dated. There were not enough dishes/silverware for the amount of people the listing advertises for-4 dinner plates & 3 forks. Limited pots & pans. The cutting board was moldy. I visited the goodwill & bought silverware (left it there for the next guest). There is a 10ft drop to the FAST moving river, so it is definitely not kid or pet friendly. The living room lights did not work, there is no tv service & only a few movies. The dryer is very old & takes forever (two cycles) to dry anything, which was hard with lots of ski clothes to dry. The fridge had to be turned up all the way to keep things cold enough. The trash cans in the shed were so full I had to keep our trash in the house all week. The hardwood floors are separating. The window coverings were not private & this is in a neighborhood. The front door is glass with no covering & you can see straight in from the street. The bedrooms are large & beds are comfortable. The views are great & the town of Index is a favorite or ours. The local hiking is good & only about 35 min from the ski resort which is great. The woodstove works great so don't forget firewood! The code for the door is very long & it doesn't unlock, so be aware! HA! The third bedroom is really a den & has a large 15 foot curtain for the wall, so there is a lack of privacy. It was fine for kids. Bathrooms: large & functional. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, if needed. Cabinets were stocked with a few necessities. We made the best, but will not return.

My Stay at the Skykomish Cabin in Index
My mom, my aunts, and I stayed at the cabin during the weekend and it was cozy and warm. I especially loved the little wooden desk in the second bedroom facing the river, where I did some drawing and art. We had a wonderful time! I give this a 5/5 rating

Nice spot!
I visited this property to work on my book and it was perfect for that! Access to WIFI was great and I can imagine this would be a great spot during the spring and summer months when there is more opportunity for recreation! My dog enjoyed the space. It was quiet and nice. They had a selection of DVDs and games. It might have been nice to have more communication from the property owner as I was a little nervous going by myself during this dark time of year.

That view!
We came here for the view and small town charm. The town is a tiny enclave but very unique and walkable and friendly. The river and view is so beautiful! There is zero safe access to the river from the house but there is easy access down the road. The wood stove helped create some ambience (and heat of course!) so don't forget to bring wood, there is none. The house is certainly functional but very dated and not in a quaint way.... more of 'it was inexpensive, we made it work." There are checkout directions for the dishwasher but there isn't one (seems a bit impersonal?). Besides the picnic table on the deck there were no chairs to use for outdoors. Luckily we had some camp chairs or that would have been an issue.

Pros and Cons of our stay at The River Roost
First, the pros: The property was clean and the kitchen and linens were well stocked. The view was beautiful. Laundry equipment worked just fine. Refrigerator was spacious and microwave worked well. Large eating table and bar stools at the bar area was a plus. Entertainment such as Blue Tooth device for TV was nice and games were plentiful. (There is no live tv). The Cons: The keylock had at least 8-10 numbers to key in. Couldn't memorize this. The house is very dated and could use some sprucing up. The deck railing downstairs is very loose. Only 3 burners on the kitchen stove work, which was an inconvenience when 4 adult guests are staying in this house. Because of covid, we found it necessary to do our own cooking. The front porch was slippery as well as the steps when it rained, as it usually does in this area. Need treads at least on the steps. One of the guest slipped but caught her fall. Although, not a significant problem, I do feel that the management should provide more paper products such as paper towels and toilet paper instead of asking the renters to buy their own if supply needs to be replenished.

Items that need attention
1. Fire place door seal is ragged and while no smoke entered room a carbon monoxide detector was activated. 2. Dinning room chair snapped a support brace on leg when averaged size guy sat down for supper. 3. Grill on deck works to some degree but one of three flame / heat shields is rusted if half.

Don't waste your money on this rental.
Don't waste your money on this rental. We are incredibly disappointed with the rental property. The cabin grass was extremely dry, nothing to do with the pictures. The neighbors had the grass green and well taken care of, so it's not a seasonal issue or excuse. The fridge did not keep things cold. Most of the food went bad because of this. Both fridges were warm and didn't keep the meat cold enough, so we end up with a lot of food waste. The stove didn't work correctly either; one of the fires has plastic on it and most of the fires didn't properly heat. The cabin felt very dirty. First and foremost, you have a vast spider infestation problem. We've been renting cabins in the cascade loop area for over ten years, and we have never had this issue or found so many spiders. I think we counted 20 huge spiders on the windows at night; the spiders look very similar to black widows or false black widows. We found of the largest spiders next to our dog bed inside the house downstairs; if that spider was poisonous, that could have ended badly for our small dog. We also found a massive spider in the upstairs bathroom. The cliff was a huge awful surprise; all your pictures are taken in a way where the cliff does not show up; it feels as if the house was right next to the river, but there's a 10 feet tall rock cliff. This cabin is not safe for kids or dogs. Overall, this place felt a little scammy, nothing to do with the VRBO post; the pictures are misleading to the property's real conditions and the garden and cliff. We are incredibly disappointed and sad because we haven't taken a vacation in a long time, and this place ruined the little time we had to rest this year. We spent all our vacation time in this awful experience. We ended up going home sooner, so we can adequately refrigerate things, not feel we are in a spider-infested place, and able to play our dog without having safety issues. We are incredibly disappointed with the whole experience; it ruined our vacation. We also wrote to the company. 15 days ago, and they still haven't responded. Don't waste your money and vacation time here.
