Cozy hotel on the very energetic market square
Fantastic cozy hotel in the heart of Groningen overlooking the market square. The older hotel, which was renovated perhaps 20 years ago, is a beautiful old building. The staff was pleasant, and the rooms are generous in size for northern Europe. The bathroom was large and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Room temperature was great. The only challenge is that it is on the market square and Groningen has an energetic nightlife--so bring your large earplugs, as the partiers are out all night long and the windows are hardly sound proof.
I really liked the location. A stone's throw from a number of key city centre attractions and a great place to sit at the terrace facing the Grote Markt and enjoy the folks walking by. The only area of improvement is the coffee - consider upgrading the coffee machine as this would bring the experience to a perfect boutique hotel level!
Loved this hotel , some bits are dated but the place has a great feeling about it and everything is quality and well maintained.
The staff on reception were the best, great welcome and couldn't be more helpful.
Looking forward to coming back to this hotel, location is right on the square, don't think you could be in a better place
I loved this hotel. I came for a week’s stay visiting with my son attending the University. I chose it specifically because I could have access to the busses in the Grote Markt downstairs and I have difficulty walking in this bike city.
Loved my room 102 overlooking the square, with a full size dry sauna in the large bathroom-used it every day-evening. Loved all the old fashioned details in the large comfy room. Great stand up shower and full bath. Great coffee and tea selection in room and wonderful free cappuccino/latte/tea and cookies available 24/7 by the public rooms which had tables, a library and cool old fashioned decor. My son joined me for breakfast daily before classes and we enjoyed eggs, yoghurt-granola, breads, cheeses, meats We ordered room service
Lovely place to stay on central
Square in Groningen. Historic building full of character. Room was petite but comfortable. Staff was great. Sten at front desk was great. Lots of nice places to walk and right in the midst of many restaurants and clubs. Parking a bit of a hassle but all in all we really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was awesome as welll and the complimentary coffee, tea and cookies are a great touch
Comfortable and clean right in city centre. Reasonable price and friendly service. My daughter was in the hospital nearby so this was a good location to access all local amenities close by and enable me to walk to all immediate locations restaurants and shops.
The staff are all friendly and helpful. It's a beautiful hotel, with lots of historic features. Our room was quiet. I hope I get to stay in this hotel again!
I was in Groningen for a couple days for a job interview. This place was located near where my interview was. There was a very loud local fair going on out front, but thankfully my room was toward the back so I could barely hear it. I needed an iron since my cloths had gotten a bit wrinkled during travel and they only have one on the premises, but once it was not being used they delivered it to my room. The beds were very comfortable! My only complaint is the lack of wifi... I should have checked beforehand, but I feel like wifi is so standard these days I didn't think to check...
We loved the mattresses. At first we thought they would be too soft but they were perfect and sooo comfortable. We stayed in room 302. It was a good sized room with a large bathroom that had an enourmous tub and separate shower with great water pressure. The room and bathroom were very clean. The breakfast was quite good with good options and worth the extra cost. The restaurant next door was convienent with good service. The hotel is in a great location for the sights and shopping as it’s on the main square. While we didn’t have a lot of problems with noise, there was a big gathering for a soccer game that ran late and there was a lot of cheering. I expect this when in a city location and was not bothered, but others may not be so tolerate. Our only problem is that the desk staff was not knowledgeable about the bus schedules, process and that unless you have a bus card that you have to pay in cash only.
