Riverfront camping. Large multi-family site. Private dedicated bath. Tents & RVs
Nominated for "Best in WV" last year.
COVID19 Update: Private Bathroom/shower (see below)
* it doesn't get much better than this for group campers.. Riverfront, incredible views, seclusion, privacy, easy river access, balance of shade and sun, hot showers & flush toilet, tons of parking, store within a walk..
* spacious secluded waterfront site suitable for larger groups on the Cacapon River surrounded by woody areas on 3 sides and mountain on the other side of the river. Groups up to 40 people have stayed on site so far. Camping area is about 125x60 feet, plus more away from water depending on how many cars you bring, with space for overflow cars within a walk. Site is a great value for larger groups.
* deep and shallow spots for fishing and kayaking (this downstream site has wider river and calmer waters)
* this site is great for multi-family groups with kids, the waterline is mostly calm and shallow by the shore, you can easily see your kids due to low shorelines, and you can also walk to the bridge 1/8 of a mile and "tube" through the rapids back to the site. Fun that can last for hours.
* put in upstream for trips ranging from 1h to whole day and camp along the river
* Stoney Creek Country store within walking distance for your basic needs plus pizza, milkshakes, subs, ice creams.. and home of the "best cheese steak you ever had"
* you can burn any driftwood you find (plenty!), but no cutting of trees/vegetation allowed
* this site is suitable for RV/dry camping, you'll need to get a little creative with finding a level spot, and be relatively good (but not an ace) with your trailer/RV.
* Please review Stoney Creek Campground Page for available nearby attractions.
COVID19 Update: "Private" to site bathrooms. You will be issued a pin code. Two rolls of TP and a roll of paper towels will be provided. The bathroom/shower will be cleaned prior to your arrival. Your group will be responsible for keeping the bathroom/shower stocked for your needs, and as clean and disinfected as you're comfortable for the duration of your stay. The port-a-potty by the store will be a backup option. If going to the store, please wear a mask and review COVID19 guidelines posted at the door.
All long weekends will require 3 night stay (Memorial, Independence, Labor) and have a price premium.
If you'd like to come in earlier than check-in time, you can check with us if we can accommodate, but the best way to reserve that morning is to book additional night.
River Conditions: Google: "national weather gcpw2" for current and forecast river conditions. The river will likely become dangerous to enjoy past 5ft at Cacapon gauge. "Good" (safe) range is 1.5-4.5ft. Actual river depth varies.
* We will allow all campers (and campers only!) to tube down from the bridge river access across those rapids and exit and the designated downstream portion of the North site between hours of 9am and 6pm. We had campers take advantage of this on a case by case basis asking the North site for permission, but we'd like to set this expectation ahead of time for North campers to see other campers in the water and path through.
