Hot tub w/ Sunset Views! Secluded mountain chalet

Summary:
Secluded chalet near the top of a mountain on 8 acres, just 70 minutes from downtown DC, 20 minutes to old town Front Royal, close enough to get Instacart from groceries, Costco and Target, and private enough to enjoy your sunset view from the deck every night and to not see any other homes! The home is at the end of a long gravel road and parking in a small cul-de-sac. Dogs are allowed for a $100 fee per stay (3 dogs max, can not be left alone overnight) .

The Space:
Two levels of luxury meets rustic charm, with three gas fireplaces, billiards table, hot tub (almost floating in the trees!), huge deck, and TV's with Rokus in almost every room, including bedrooms. Guests can divide into two groups, one upstairs and one down: Upstairs features the three bedroom, two bathroom space with vaulted ceilings and a wall of windows facing sunset; Downstairs features a kitchenette, two king bedrooms, bathroom and incredible views downstairs plus a separate wheelchair-friendly entrance below. There is a gas grill, gas fire pit, outdoor dining table for 10, and new carpet, paint, lighting, furniture and decor as of 2021! NOTE: there is bedding and towels for 5 king/queen beds and 4 additional twin beds that can be placed in any bedroom or living area as extra. If you intend to also use the four twin beds you must bring your own bedding for those.

A vaulted ceiling on the main level, with a stone-look gas fireplace and 65" television, 8-speaker surround speaker system and Roku/Alexa for entertainment. Two internet networks and 5 bars on AT&T/Verizon with full internet and voice connection.

Guest Access:
Guests can drive in and enter using the code provided to them before check-in. Note: the road and driveway is steep and paved with gravel. 4WD or AWD vehicles are recommended but we have had guests in small 2-wheel-drive sedans without issue. If it is icy you may have issues.

The Neighborhood:
A secluded neighborhood in the heart of Shenandoah Farms, with access to the Shenandoah River just at the bottom of the mountain (with parking lot and boat put-in too). There are two convenience stores within a 5 minute drive of the home, and you can be at the Ashby Inn (reserve early!) in 13 minutes, Hunter's Head Tavern in Upperville in 25 minutes, or downtown Front Royal in 25 minutes too.

Getting Around:
To the right on Howellsville Road, you can be in Winchester in 30 minutes, Upperville in 25 minutes, Middleburg in 35 minutes and Front Royal (downtown) in 25 minutes.

Other Things to Note:
ON 8 PRIVATE ACRES!! Almost no one else is visible... just you and the sprawling valley view in front of you, including the Shenandoah river from one side of the vista to the other, sunsets over the ridge every night and deer in your front yard each morning!

Here are some of our favorite things to do when we're not just enjoying the hot tub, grilling and eating on the deck or lounging by the fireplace:

HIKING SKY MEADOWS STATE PARK:
Just around the corner, about a 13 minute drive from the house is Sky Meadows State Park, with several trails and great views there.

DINING AT A HISTORIC INN:
The Ashby Inn is next to Sky Meadows, in Paris, VA. It dates back to the Revolutionary War and has food that is to die for. (BOOK EARLY)

CANOEING/KAYAKING/TUBING THE SHENANDOAH: They call Front Royal the Canoe Capital of America, but it is fantastic for kayaking and lazy river tubing too! There are two great companies nearby that can arrange a float, or bring your own equipment and use the put-in just at the bottom of the mountain, free for residents and guests of our neighborhood.

EXPLORING HISTORIC TOWNS:
Just around the other corner is Millwood, a lovely town with a fantastic market (Locke Market), beautiful restaurant (the Buttery), both across from an old Mill with picnic area and a waterfall. 20 minutes down the other direction is Upperville, with the Hunter's Head Tavern, with great food and great prices too! Just past Upperville is Middleburg, a super quaint town with its own distillery, plus markets, ice cream shops and even a tasting room nearby (Boxwood).

And, duh.... DRINKING WINE:
Route 17 connects 50 and 66 (exit 23 on 66) and has 4 or 5 wineries peppered between gorgeous estate manors. Blue Valley is one of our favorites, with excellent wine and gorgeous grounds and views. Delaplane is a pretty location too, and for the fancy wine tasting experience in an architecturally stunning setting, check out rdV WInery (maximum 4 people). Our favorite wine is probably the Cabernet Franc at Chester Gap Cellars, which also has one of the most stunning views too, and that is just about 35 minutes from the house too.
Make yourself comfortable in this air-conditioned vacation home, which features a fireplace. There's a private balcony. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, a stovetop, and a microwave. Conveniences include a coffee/tea maker and a washing machine.
Enjoy recreation amenities such as a spa tub or take in the view from a garden.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Fall long weekend getaway
The Chalet is a diamond on the mountain and has plenty of room for two families, was also great that we could take our fur babies with us. We did not go anywhere, just enjoyed the comfort and well stocked kitchen. It was very nice to have all of the extras provided by David who is a wonderful host and quickly responds to communication. The views are wonderful from the morning mist off of the river to the stunning sunsets. We just relaxed, enjoyed the Chalet and fire pit for our smores nights. We are looking forward to going back next October for a longer stay!!

Beautiful house and location
The house and scenery are beautiful! The house easily accommodated 6 adults and our family dog for 6 days/ 5 nights. There was plenty of parking for 3 cars. The host, David, gave detailed instructions prior to our arrival on how to use the amenities in the house. He also made himself available if we ever needed him. Excellent service! Highly recommend this host!

Great large family gathering home
We had a wonderful family gathering at David's mountain view home. Beautiful relaxing view from the deck. Lots of space for multiple families. Well stocked kitchen & all the basic bathroom supplies were ready. Comfortable beds & plenty of linens & towels for everyone. David shared great detailed directions for everything within the house and what is available near the property for outings. We hope to return for a future family get together.

Views
The views of this place are hard to describe unless you are there. David was easy to deal with throughout and is very caring. As long as you are honest and let him know what is happening, basically communicate you will have no issues. We had an issue with the grill and stink bugs but we handled it and let David know about it. If you want a quiet getaway with beautiful views, you need to go to this place. It was great and we will be back. We went on a golf trip and this place had it all and the crew loved all the aspects of this home and the golf was awesome too. I highly recommend this property. Thank you.

Great stay
I recently stayed at this property for a weekend with a few friends. The property was great and had everything we needed. All amenities were very clean and nice, and there were amazing views right from the living room and deck. There was plenty of space and every detail was well thought out. It's convenient to hiking and the town of Front Royal. I highly recommend this property, and would stay again if in the area.

Wow, that view!
My writers group held its annual retreat in this gorgeous house - and hope to return again! The kitchen was incredibly well-equipped, and we loved gathering around the beautiful live-edge wooden table, or outside on the deck, for communal meals. There were plenty of spaces to sit quietly and write or edit, indoors or out. We enjoyed peaceful mornings on the deck watching the fog lift from the valley, and cozy evenings relaxing in the hot tub. Five stars, we all agreed we'd love to stay here again!

Anniversary Weekend Bust
We booked 2 nights, but were sitting on the deck the final evening, heard a loud noise (a transformer blew) & soon discovered the power had gone out. Since the home has a septic system, not only was there no electricity, there was no running water & toilets were unable to be flushed. We waited an hour then decided to forego the last night of our stay. If that had been the only issue, we'd understand, but there was also a contractor working on the property Sunday afternoon, which was strange, because it was Sunday, and because the property is very secluded, so when a stranger is unexpectedly walking below the deck, it's quite startling! We talked with the man & learned he had been hired by the owners to provide some contract work, but the owners did not notify us ahead of time that someone was coming. Then to top it off, after the contractor finally left hours later, we were sitting on the deck & this awful, loud, deafening noise started. We thought it was a helicopter or some aircraft flying low overhead, but couldn't see anything. After about 10 minutes of the constant noise, we called the non-emergency police # & learned that a nearby farm was conducting a controlled gas venting, on a Sunday afternoon! The noise was so loud & lasted over an hour! It sounded like the tarmac at an airport with a plane firing up its engines on the deck! Needless to say, the time was not what we desired. Having said that, the home is beautiful, the hot tub was relaxing, sunsets are gorgeous.

Reconnect & Reset
The chalet is a hidden gem. Our family had a fantastic time reconnecting with one another and making great meals. The daily views (especially sunsets) were breathtaking and if you are lucky enough to see it in the hot tub then it is all the more sweeter. The house was well stocked with kitchen items and bathroom stocked with toiletries which we found to be a nice touch. Beds comfy and clean. We indulged in many games of pool, ping pong, puzzle making and assorted games, which kept guests of all ages content. The record players with an array of great albums was such a wonderful touch! So sit back and help yourself to your favorite beverage and just chill.

Excellent Stay!
The chalet was incredibly clean and beautifully decorated. The beds and sofas were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, the outdoor spaces were fabulous, and the view was beautiful. The chalet and location were even better than they appeared in the pictures. The owner was very responsive and provided detailed check in / check out instructions that made the process stress free. There were only 2 of us (and a small dog) for our stay; the chalet would comfortably fit a few couples, but was also a great size for just the 2 of us. We had no issues with the internet / wifi, and there's good cell service. We enjoyed the nearby Sky Meadows State Park and wine country. It was convenient to also be about 20 minutes away from Target, grocery stores, and restaurants in Front Royal. Overall, the chalet, location, and booking process were excellent.
