The Coop is a dog friendly tiny house with large, private fenced yard in a semi-secluded nature lover’s paradise off a private road. My husband and I renovated a pigeon coop to create a comfortable, inspiring space for those who want to recharge, relax or write the Great American Novel.
Dining, shopping, conveniences, the Six Mile Slough lake and Caloosahatchee River are within 2 miles. Beaches 25 minutes away or as far as you want to drive up and down both coasts to dine, relax, explore, hunt shells… Beach towels and sunblock are in the entry bench. 2 small beach chairs, a cooler, cart, umbrella are complimentary and available upon request at booking. A women’s hybrid bicycle and 2 single seat kayaks are available for rent and requested at booking. Find world class fishing, golfing, water sports, spas, Twins & Red Sox spring training & entertainment 15-45 minutes away.
Step up to your private deck and watch beautiful birds & butterflies fly around our 50+ trees, the sun set, take your meals al fresco.
Inside take in our ever evolving gallery of mixed media pigeon art. The interior color scheme is Americana-red, white, and blue, the walls a cool, calming blue toned white.
Enjoy a well appointed kitchenette, fully stocked café station with complimentary coffees & teas, local Florida honey & Florida Crystals sugar, creamers, popcorn & Brita filtered water.
A queen bed and sofa bed provide a restful, comfortable sleep for up to 4. A wall desk and director’s chair are perfect for remote or rainy day work. A wall safe for your valuables is in the closet nook.
The bathroom is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and more. We provide a steamer and distilled water instead of an iron.
The space is cleaned and disinfected with people & pet friendly, made in the USA products, USUALLY bleach and ammonia free.
You can adjust the amount of natural light with cordless room darkening blinds and a blackout curtain on the door.
The wall TV mount allows ample movement for viewing from any angle in the studio. Just log into your favorite streaming service!
PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING: This is a nature lover’s stay. During the spring & early summer when outside you’ll hear the mating call of our neighbors’ 30 🦚s 3 doors down. You can often view their splendor if you look through their fence.
🐊A baby alligator, Tony, washed up in front of our house after Hurricane Ian. Anywhere in Florida you see the smallest body of water, you can rest assured there is a gator there or nearby. Please exercise caution with your little ones and dogs.
Costello, our resident owl, Donatello, the 13” woodpecker, countless tree frogs and lizards make their home at our ranch. Cotton tail bunnies and rabbits hop through. HUGE turtles show up for unscheduled photo sessions. Harmless black racer snakes play in pairs as do large “talking” squirrels. Know your snakes. A rare coral snake is NOT your friend.
You may encounter an occasional stray cat, raccoon, or rare coyote. Do NOT interact with a coyote! Make noise so it leaves, bring your dogs inside, and alert me. Coyotes pose a threat to small animals and are most often seen early morning, dusk, evening.
Walk down the road and offer an apple or carrot to our neighbors’ sweet mini horses. In the other direction is Pennington Farms, which offers horse training and horseback riding lessons. Our neighbors with the peacocks rescue, rehab and rehome horses. You could hear them and see them, if you’re lucky.
PESTS: Heavy rains occasionally bring A palmetto bug. Fellow city folk: these are NOT the smaller “German roaches” we would see in NYC, even if they look similar. Seeing ONE does NOT indicate an infestation! Outside you could spot a harmless palm rat, though I never have in 3+ years here. Our exterminator inspects traps and sprays for wasps, mud daubers, hornets regularly. We also spread multi-insect (fleas, spiders, red ants, etc.) granules on the lawn (NOT while dog guests are present). Despite these measures you may still encounter a bug. This is SWFL-tropical and wild.
The Coop is stocked with bug spray, repellant, white vinegar & Florida honey which treat stings naturally.
