Given that the price for this hotel room was above average, I want to give an object review.
1/. This is a fairly new-build, the layout and walk-through need attention. I did not like the way the path to the lifts went directly past the dining tables and the bar area. Ok, great in the event of a fire, you can get out fast. But this should not be the overriding reason for a design feature of this nature.
2/. This very open nature of the ground floor for me was the reason the main aroma here was of the toilets and possibly the more stale smells emanating from the kitchens. This made me apprehensive about dining here. However, as it was late, and the hotel location is away from the main Edinburgh restaurants, I did order food, which was excellent and well presented.
3/. The hotel room was adequate, with no frills. There was nothing that would place it above a Travelodge room or Premier Inn room, which leaves me wondering why the price was well above those of other two hoteliers.
4/. The green LED on the air conditioning control panel is much too bright. One may as well try and sleep with a light on, or turn the A/C off and end up with a stuffy room.
The location is beautiful, Heriot-Watt university campus is lovely. It is just a pity that this hotel is much too corporate to blend with its surroundings.
