After a 12-hour drive from Ohio, I was hoping this place would be good. It wasn't. It was outstanding. We had a very minor issue with our room checking in--one we could have easily lived with--but they upgraded us without hesitation because they had a last-minute cancellation. The property is wall-to-wall rustic charm (especially the main building), and our room and beds were very comfortable. Slept great. Great that they had trailer parking too! Most importantly to us, the place was active and fun during the day, but it was quiet at night and in the morning. We enjoyed having coffee down by the water in the morning. All the guests we met were super nice. Some had been coming to the Chanticleer for years, which speaks volumes. The restaurant and bar were great. The food was delicious, and the Chanticleer bartenders passed the "proper Wisconsin old-fashioned" test with flying colors. Lastly, the woman who checked us in was very nice. After a long drive, the friendly greeting was quite welcome. I'd go back to this place in a heartbeat. Way better than staying at some boring chain hotel. Five stars and two thumbs up.
