About this property

Charming, Fully Restored, Greek Revival House, Farmland Setting

Guests immediately feel comfortable when entering this charming historic home. Every room is tastefully decorated with a combination of antique and modern furniture, oriental rugs and art works. Multiple windows infuse the house with light and include views of farmland, the patio and the barns surrounding the house. Enclosed by a stone wall, the backyard patio is a private space equipped with chairs, a table and barbecue. Inside, the expansive Sun Room overlooking the patio has a brick floor, high ceilings, skylights and hand hewn wood beams. The Sun Room is furnished with a table for informal meals and snacks; a sofa; and roll top desk. A kitchen, fully stocked with all necessary cooking utensils, appliances, and dinnerware, has a center island and an old-fashioned pantry. A formal dining room with Windsor chairs and a long, cherry table is a pleasurable place to enjoy meals. The living room is equipped with a large sofa and TV. The den can be used as an office space with a desk and office chair and/or an extra bedroom (with its single sized convertible bed). There is a full bathroom downstairs with a claw foot tub and handheld shower, while the upstairs bathroom has a combination shower and tub. There are two bedrooms upstairs as well as a room with a washer and dryer. The large west bedroom has a queen-sized bed and closets as well as a TV. The east bedroom has a closet and matching twin beds. Beautiful hand hewn ceiling beams are visible in every room upstairs.
Also included are two barns: One is a small game barn (a former Chicken Barn) which serves as a playroom. It is equipped with a ping pong table and a Cornhole game. The other barn serves as a one car garage. It is located at the end of the driveway directly across from the house.
The house is named after the magnificent white oak tree on the property. A delightful walk through the fields leads to the tree as well as a large wildlife pond created by a dam built by beavers. The landscape is peaceful with 100 acres of rolling hills planted in hay and worked by a local farm family. Surrounding the house and barns is a beautifully maintained lawn area.
Pets are allowed, but there is an additional fee of $20 per pet per day.
The White Oak House is located in the township of Hoosick, where the scenic agricultural landscape still reflects the paintings by Grandma Moses, the renowned folk artist who lived in the area. The house is situated on a country road in an agricultural community within easy driving distance of the Capital District and Saratoga Springs, NY; Williamstown, MA; Bennington, VT; and several ski areas. It is just 5 miles from the village of Hoosick Falls, northern Rensselaer County, NY and 10 miles from the village of Cambridge, southern Washington County. Cambridge offers an active community arts center with theater and musical performances (Hubbard Hall Projects), and surrounding communities offer a wide range of cultural and sporting activities. For example, Williamstown is renowned for its summer theater, as well as the Williams College Museum and Clark Art Institute. Saratoga Springs has thoroughbred horse racing and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the National Museum of Dance and the National Museum of Racing in addition to several other museums. Bennington has the Bennington Museum, Bennington Battle Monument, and the Bennington Pottery. Manchester, VT is known for its shopping outlets, including Orvis, the famous store/school specializing in fly fishing. The nearby Battenkill River is a must for trout fishing, and the Little Hoosic River also offers fine fishing opportunities. Antiquing is a popular pastime in the area which has numerous antique stores. Hiking trails are also plentiful within a half hour to an hour’s drive. There are several horseback riding stables in the area and numerous lakes for swimming. Nearby lakes include Lake Paran, N. Bennington, VT; Lake Shaftsbury, Shaftsbury, VT., Lake Lauderdale, Cambridge, NY; Grafton Mt. Lakes and Grafton Lakes, State Park, Grafton, NY. Canoeing, tubing and kayaking opportunities exist both on the Hoosic River (with a boat launch just a few miles away) and the Battenkill River. The closest golf course, Dutchhaven in Buskirk, is a 5 minute drive. Other nearby golf courses can be found at: the Hoosick Falls Country Club; Mount Anthony Country Club, Bennington, VT; and Windy Hills Golf Course in Greenwich, NY. The closest ski area is Willard Mountain (a 15 minute drive). Other ski areas within a reasonable commute include Jiminy Peak in Hancock, MA; Stratton Mountain, Bondville, VT; Mt. Snow, West Dover, VT. Hiking opportunities are also nearby.
Late summer offerings include the two agricultural fairs: the Schaghticoke Fair in Schaghticoke, NY and the Washington County Fair in Greenwich, NY. Fine restaurants can be found throughout the area, some with local color, others with gourmet cuisine. Grocery and drug stores, banks, restaurants, and a variety of specialty stores are about 6 miles away. The beauty of the fall foliage cannot be extolled enough. It is every bit as spectacular in the Buskirk area as in VT.
There is a sister property I own for rent #2083060, the Buskirk School House, that has a queen-sized bed. It is in very close proximity to the White Oak House and equally beautiful.
The White Oak House is available for rental year-round. All seasons at the house are distinctive. In the fall, the vistas of the multi-colored foliage are breathtaking; winter is serene; spring is noteworthy for early blossoms; and in summer nature shows off its bounty of flowering plants.
There's a private balcony or patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Complimentary wireless internet access keeps you connected, and a Smart television is provided for your entertainment. The bathroom has a bathtub and a hair dryer. Conveniences include a phone, as well as a desk and a microwave.
Take in the views from a garden and make use of amenities such as an arcade/game room and barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Magical - simply Magical
OMG - this place is fantastic. An oasis of peace and quiet yet close to so many things - Albany Rep for theatre, 38 mins away, Saratoga - 38 min away, Bennington museums - 38 min away. Manchester VT - 38 min away. This house is so impeccably appointed and comfortable, you want for nothing. Add in the "see to the horizon" sight lines out your bedroom window and you know you are in heaven. You know the host cares for your comfort - she has even added a bit of magic to your stay

White Oak House
Wow-what an incredible two month stay we had at the “White Oak House”! We chose this property for the need of privacy, relaxation and nature. We also were visiting our children in Saratoga Springs during our visit. The restored farmhouse was stocked very well with all the needs required for a long stay. The hostess, Connie, also provided a Roku tv for the master bedroom and lounge chairs for our outdoor use while we were there to enhance our experience. The beds and linens were very comfortable. The internet worked well as we worked daily from the office areas available. The beautiful landscape and house did not disappoint. There were deer sightings each day. Some even close enough to eat apples from the nearby tree. It was a wonderful place to rejuvenate. Connie, thanks again for sharing your wonderful property with us!! We would love to return again in the future!! Fondly, Ed & Lori

Relaxing Stay
The White Oak House is the perfect balance of historical farmhouse detail and modern functionality! The house was exceptionally clean and fully stocked with the necessities when we arrived. We loved the connected sunroom and kitchen areas, as we were able to enjoy the views of the property while caring for our children. The quiet setting in rural Buskirk was perfect for a week of relaxing! Connie’s knowledge of the area and pride in her properties made her the ideal host. She ensured that our arrival was coordinated and she was available to answer questions throughout our stay.

Beautiful and quiet property
We stayed at The White Oak for a long weekend for leaf peeping and to tour the area. It was a perfect place to stay and was centrally located to visit either Saratoga Springs or head over to Vermont. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The property is beautiful and quiet , a perfect place to relax and drink your morning coffee or read a book. Connie was a great host and helped us with everything we needed and was always a text or phone call away. Highly recommend!

A Special Place
My family and I spent a number of days at White Oak Farm, a time in our lives that I'll remember forever. Mornings in the sunroom, the yellow light flooding in, drinking coffee and looking out on restored barns and well tended fields...afternoon walks over the rolling land...rainy days with everybody snug in a bedroom reading. There's enough space in the house to hide away by yourself, and enough space to gather. The interiors are beautiful and traditional, with wide pine board floors, exposed wood ceiling beams, and an elegant polished balustrade wrapping around the front staircase. Art rather than decoration hangs on the walls. Everything about White Oak Farm is tasteful, including its picturesque land and its comfortable distance from neighboring farms. The kitchen has a gas stove, lots of equipment, and a walk-in pantry with built-in cupboards. On the WiFi network our family members worked, watched movies, and played games on their devices. To shop you can take a gorgeous little drive to Greenwich, Bennington, or Hoosick Falls. We had everything we wanted or needed here. And in this beautiful place my family felt taken care of. Connie was available whenever we had questions, and she gave us good suggestions for sightseeing and shopping. On our arrival, Chad (the farm's caretaker) helped us get to know the house and its workings. As the weather warmed, he put in window screens, mowed grass, and set up the outdoor grill on the patio. My wife's favorite things: The well stocked kitchen; the grounds and the hiking trail in the woods; and Connie's management of the rental and her tips and suggestions for enjoying our stay. My kids' favorite things: The sunsets. The walk-in pantry full of snacks. Their bedroom; the two living rooms. "Whenever you want to get exercise, you can pick a direction and start walking." My favorite thing: On a number of nights, falling asleep to the sound of a Great Horned Owl calling from nearby woods.

We did not want to leave!! The house and property are SO beautiful. I was also concerned that we would be cold in an older house during the night but we stayed so warm and comfortable. You wouldn’t even know it was cold out. We spent a lot of our trip exploring the property there and there is a lot to see. We will definitely go back again!

Perfect winter getaway!
The White Oak House exceeded our expectations! 7 friends came for a quiet New Years Eve and the house had everything we wanted: perfect bedroom/couch space, plenty of room for games and puzzles in the living room and a very well-equipped kitchen and pantry for our New Year's Eve dinner. Despite a -22 degree morning, we loved exploring the property almost as much as we enjoyed being cozy in the house. It's a beautiful home and we'd love to return!
