5 bedrooms & 3 bathrooms - stunning south facing views "Wild Atlantic Way"

Bay House is a superb waterfront property, located as on the "Wild Atlantic Way", in a truly spectacular and private setting. You can also see more reviews and information on our other sites.

Set in 1.7 Acres and approached by a half-mile private country lane, Bay House and gardens overlook Dunmanus Bay.

The views reach for over twenty miles, out into the Atlantic, over the Sheep's Head and Mizen peninsula and with a backdrop of the Beara peninsula.

We consider our location and stunning views of the sea and mountains to be some of the finest in West Cork.

Stone steps from the garden sea wall lead straight onto a slate/shingle beach. Many claim to be waterfront but we really are the real deal!

The friendly and lively village of Durrus is within walking distance (1.5km), where there are three pubs, a pizzeria, a grocery shop, a post office and a charity shop.

The Mizen peninsula's sandy beaches, including Barley Cove’s beautiful Blue Flag beach, are just a short drive away and the Sheep's Head peninsula with the Goat's Path is famous for having many miles of scenic and rugged walks.

There are numerous marked walks on both peninsulas to suit all abilities.

The historic waterside and market town of Bantry, which boasts a brand new marina, is approximately 8 kilometres away.

Here you will find many more bars, restaurants and supermarkets, incl. Lidl and Supervalu. Super valu also offers an online delivery service; this is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays to Bay House, Durrus.

Within easy reach are: Bantry House, Mizen Head Lighthouse, Glengariff Bamboo Park, Schull Planetarium, Ewe Sculpture Garden, Waterfall Alpaca Farm in Drimoleague, Cape Clear Island, Fastnet Rock & Garnish Island.

Other activities in the area include: fishing, boat trips, kayaking, horse riding, scuba diving, cinema, whale watching, swimming & Spa, walking/hill walking, beaches and golf.

Bantry (Bantry Bay Golf Course) has an 18-hole championship course with some stunning scenery overlooking Bantry Bay. A little further down the road in Glengariff is another course, with 9 holes.

The house is spacious and very well equipped. The layout is perfect for families or groups sharing.

It has five beautifully appointed bedrooms, consisting of three double bedrooms rooms all looking out over the bay (each with a king-size bed), one has an en-suite bathroom with bath, power shower and WC.

There are two twin bedrooms (located at the rear of the house) and two further bathrooms, each with a separate bath, a power shower and WC.

All bed linen is pure cotton and all of the bedding and pillows are of top quality. We provide bath towels, hand towels and face cloths for all guests. Beach towels are also provided for each guest.

For the younger members of the family, there is a travel cot, a high chair, a "Stocke" dining chair and a baby bath.

The living area consists of a generous open plan sitting room/dining room & kitchen.

There is an American style fridge/freezer with ice machine, a DVD player, a 46" LED flat screen TV, an iPOD docking station, leather sofas, dining table, with benches & chairs to seat 10 and a log burner with glass at the sides as well as the front.

There is a separate utility room with a washing machine, a tumble dryer, a dishwasher, a microwave and an additional fridge/freezer.

The sun porch doubles as a children's playroom. Here they will find numerous toys and books for many age groups. There are also plenty of jigsaw puzzles and games to be found in the top of the cloak cupboard - and for the parents and grandparents too!

All of the living and sleeping accommodation is on one level. This is ideal when there are different generations of families. It can also be very useful to those who find it difficult with stairs and different ground levels.
In the wooden shed you will find a charcoal barbecue (with tools) and plastic buckets & spades for the beach. There is also ample room in here to store your walking boots, wetsuits, body boards, dinghy and any other paraphernalia that goes with a wonderful holiday in West Cork.

In front of the house is almost an acre of lawn with direct access to a shingle and slate beach. Don't forget to fetch the buckets & spades from the shed for crab catching!

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required upon reservation. The balance is due six weeks before arrival, together with the refundable damage deposit of £250. We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance when making your booking. Wifi is free of charge and covers all areas of the house. Electricity & heating oil are also included but the charging of electric cars is not - please advise before arrival if you are bringing an electric car so that the meter can be read.
One small pet allowed - £75 per stay. Please can you let us know at the time of booking, many thanks.

The private country lane to Bay House may be unsuitable for some sports cars.

The owners, Chris and Debbie with their daughter Faith live in the adjoining property and can be contacted at any time before or during your stay.

Whether you are enjoying a break with family & friends in West Cork, a golfing trip to one of the many beautiful golf courses in Ireland or a painting holiday with some of the most spectacular scenery on our doorstep, Bay House is the perfect place for you!
Make yourself comfortable in this villa, which features a fireplace. There's a private patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.
Take in the views from a garden and make use of amenities such as barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Wonderful house in a perfect setting
Excellent holiday property. Lots of beds and bath and space inside and outside. Very well equipped kitchen, also everything you need in the house, books, toys, chairs, BBQ etc. Just as well, as you are miles from anywhere and will certainly need to cook and to entertain yourselves. The photos don't even do it justice, the views are even more beautiful and ever changing. Even our materialistic teenagers were mesmerised. Location is lovely if you like your peace and quiet and nature. Walking distance to Durrus which has one pub that does food and a basic shop. But Bantry is 15 mins and has all shops, supermarkets, nice little cinema and restaurants and takeaways. Easy drive to much of West Cork on picturesque little roads, very charming. We had a great holiday (8 of us, 2 families) and highly recommend. We didn't have perfect weather but pretty good and it didn't spoil our fun, a nice family film evening and a meal of spaghetti is a bonding experience for cousins who don't see each other very often.

Perfectly Relaxing with Spectacular View
Three generations had an absolute perfect stay at Bay House! The view of the bay that appears as you drove down the lane to the property is absolutely spectacular… then you get to look at it the entire time of your stay! Even a bit of rain couldn’t ruin the view. The home was very clean and comfortable and Debbie and Chris are the most gracious hosts!

Stunning views
Wow! Just a spectacular location in the sheltered bay near Durrus. We thoroughly enjoyed our all too short stay. Home comfortably slept 10 - a mix of adults and older kids. House had everything we needed - including charcoal BBQ. Kids loved playing on the lawn and exploring the bay when the tide was out. The views were just stunningly. We enjoyed eating sitting outside and having a coffee in the morning sitting on the sea wall listening to the peaceful sounds of nature on the bay. The small village of Durrus was good for an evening out, as was fishing for trout on Lake Boffina and a visit to the gardens of Bantry House. If you enjoy beaches, then Ballyrisode is a must along with hiking to Sheeps Head. The whole area of West Cork is just beautiful in the summer. Thanks to Debbie for great communication before and during our stay.

Superb!
We rented the bay house for a family reunion and it surpassed all our expectations. From the outset, Debbie was fantastic to deal with. We have small children who loved playing on the big lawn and seeing the sheep being fed up and close next door! The home is very well equipped to cater for large families. Very comfortable beds were a great bonus. We’d love to rerun some day!

Absolutely Stunning
Myself, my husband and 2 children (aged 12 & 15) along with two friends and their 3 children (3, 13 &15) had a weeks stay in Debbie & Chris' home and had the best time! The location is simply stunning - the bay looks different at all times of the day along with much wildlife to watch, Otters, Herons and other birds - you could very easily spend your time just at the house and not go anywhere!! We had a brilliant game of rounders/softball on the lawn with the Bay as a backdrop - which was amazing!! So much space. The house itself was very clean and had everything we needed - we had a BBQ and cooked dinner for ourselves a couple of nights. The living space had plenty of room for us all and there were enough bedrooms and bathrooms to choose from! The 3 main bedrooms had wonderful views over the bay - we felt very lucky to wake up to that view every morning! Debbie's welcome pack was the best we've been given on any of our vacations and communication with Debbie was very good. Durras is just a short walk away with friendly locals, a grocers and a good number of pubs for such a small place!! Our friends have never been to Ireland before so this was a great location to visit Kenmare, Killarney, Gap of Dunloe, (on the ring of Kerry - 2hrs away) and then more local attractions like Mizen Head, Gollen & Barley Cove Beach, Glengarriff (Seal spotting and Island trips), Skibbereen, Baltimore and Crookhaven - with great sandwiches and fish pie!!! We had a fantastic meal at 'Church Restaurant' in the centre of Skibbereen and plenty of lunches in various pubs around the area - none of which disappointed! Overall a great week in a beautiful location with fabulous hosts and we look forward to returning very soon!! Lou, Kev, Harry & Ella

Love Durrus house
We had a lovely week-long break in this fantastic house. Everything was as it should be, and the location on the waterfront is just amazing. A 20-minute walk takes you into Durrus, with a grocery shop, cafe and a few pubs serving food (outdoors only when we visited). All the beautiful sights of West Cork are within an easy drive. Highly recommend!

We spent an idyllic week at Bay House. Grandparents and 2 families and the dog and we had plenty of space. Debbie and her family were so friendly and welcoming. Thank you. Fantastic property in perfect location
We had a wonderful stay this August at Bay House. Debbie and Chris are completely professional and charming hosts. The house is spacious, was immaculately clean and well-equipped and the location is unrivalled - literally on the sea shore. Unlike many country properties you can walk to Durrus for groceries or a meal which we appreciated. Excellent all round. Thank you Debbie and Chris.

This is a very spacious house, ideal for a large group. It is very well equipped, clean and beds are extremely comfortable. The seaviews from the house are stunning and a fantastic bonus. The house has its own private water supply. We all agreed that is was the purest most refreshing drinking water we ever tasted. The booking process was straighforward and Debbie was very efficient answering our queries. The location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area. Great option to unwind by the sea
Lovely home in a brilliant location right on the water. The house had plenty of amenities and the land around the house is perfect for outdoor relaxation. Our host Debbie was very responsive and has a great balance of being friendly and welcoming but not intrusive in any way. Durrus village has a few bars only about 15mins brisk walk from the house and Bantry is a short drive away! Star of the show is the view being able wake up to such beautiful scenery is a treat along with sitting out in the evenings. Our kids loved the sheep and freedom to explore. Nice bonus is being able to go for a swim whenever you like with a rocky beach outside your front door. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to slow down and unwind.

Peace, perfect peace
Our week has been a delight from start to finish, with Debbie and Chris the perfect hosts. We can only echo what others have said about the quality of accommodation and facilities and the magical location. The house is spacious and very well-equipped, with plenty of communal and private spaces. The huge lawn, terrace (good for morning yoga!) and private shoreline with spectacular views meant we were outside on every possible occasion. The silence is striking – absolutely no traffic sounds, and perfect peace only enhanced by a backdrop of birds, animals and water sounds. We are self-confessed ‘bird nerds’, and the variety of birds and wildlife kept us enthralled. Every day there were sightings of curlew, heron, little egret, gannet, oystercatcher, cormorant, hooded crow, redshank, rock pipit, stonechat, swallow, sand martin, and the sound but not sight of the elusive corncrake … plus many more we didn’t identify. We enjoyed trying to spot the family of otters who apparently play on the lawn too! The bay is safe for kayaking and swimming. No sandy beaches, but the rocky shoreline is wonderful for walking, paddling and rock-pooling, and when the tide is out you can walk far across the mudflats. With so much time spent in the bay we didn’t explore the surrounding area as much as we could have – definitely 2 weeks needed for that. The nearest village, Durrus, is good for provisions, pubs and walks; Bantry has a large supermarket and a fun Friday market. Schull is a pretty town with great harbour views. The Sheep’s Head peninsular is the place for a wild walk, reached by increasingly narrow, windy mountain roads: don’t attempt to bring a camper van here! The road to Mizen Head (the most south-westerly tip of Ireland) is similarly wild and scenic, and we enjoyed walking across the arched bridge to the old lighthouse. Exhilarating views of the open sea and the Fastnet lighthouse, and again, great birding: chough and gannet among the stars. Excellent café too. We regret not having time for one of the boat trips, especially the whale-watching trip from Baltimore, and there are miles of ‘Wild Atlantic’ coastline still to explore. Barley Cove, glimpsed from the car on the way back from the Mizen, looks like a Caribbean atoll – acres of white sand, turquoise sea, nestled between mountains – shame we didn’t have time to stop and explore. This was a magical, all-too-short holiday that entranced all of our three-generational party. We will return!

Excellent location and fantastic views
We really enjoyed our stay. There were six of us so more than enough room. The house is well equipped. It was great to wake up in the morning and have fantastic views out all of the windows. The kids really enjoyed running around the garden and onto the beach - and enjoyed fishing for crabs in the ocean. The area has lots to offer - even if it is a little cloudy during your stay. Debbie and Chris were around if needed to answer any questions or offer any advice which was helpful when thinking about exploring new places. Make sure you read the details that utilities are charged extra - I had not realised that detail. Enjoy!

Beautiful, soothing, spotless, comfortable
We loved Bay House. Arrangements were easy to make with Debbie. The house was even more beautiful than the photos. Our group arrived to relax for a few days after a whirlwind of activities surrounding a wedding. We could not have picked a better spot. The views are great. Just sitting outside is relaxing. There was a welcome basket with some essentials. There were also maps and brochures of local attractions. We went to Sheepshead which was beautiful, most of our group walked to lighthouse, others part way but enjoyed the views. Beds comfortable and all seemed very fresh and clean. Maybe because we are from US, but it took us a bit to get used to the dishwasher and coffee maker being in the adjacent mini kitchen, but had we stayed longer we would have developed a routine. Debbie could not have been nicer and helped me sort out the clothesline which I was embarrassed to not to know how to do. We saw a seal in the bay and lots if birds.

Lovely, relaxing, quiet place to stay.
Our family group of 10 adults stayed in the Bay House for 4 nights, and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The large sitting room window looking out over the water gives a lovely feel to the house, so relaxing. The house was very clean and everything was up to a very high standard. We can highly recommend the Bay House for anyone wanting a quiet place to stay, right by the water. Chris and Debbie are very friendly hosts, ready to help in any way they can. Daniel
