Very Good

No welcome and bar staff didn't respond when we arrived. They just stayed in the other side of the bar.
A 'local' had to tell us to check-in around the back of the bar, but there was no signage for this.
Rooms of same classification/cost have different specifications which aren't stated.
No chance of a good sleep/rest.
On handover of keys, we were warned that there may be noise until 11.30, when the pub shuts, but this went on until after 00.30 with raised voices arguing and swearing up until this time.
We definitely don't expect anything too fancy, but we won't be returning.
hotel was clean and comfortable but our room was above smoking area and even when pub is ment to close at 11:30 group of people sat in smoking area well after 2am shouting and arguing right outside our window sadly is only thing that dampens the stay.
Working a way
Ideal budget accommodation
Shower brilliant
Easy parking
Ill be back

Disliked: Cleanliness
I stayed for just two nights at the Queens Head.
The room i stayed in was decent & i was happy with until i checked the mattress which was soiled, dirty & stained sadly.
The kitchen facilities available for guests to use was pleasing.
The Queens Head bar is great although as a hotel i would not recommend or stay there again.
This is not only because of the dirty bed mattress
It is down to the noise from bar downstairs & busy road noise outside.
Furthermore The Queens Head is an overpriced Hotel & simply not good value for my money afterall.

No breakfast or any food on offer as advertised when booking the rooms are run down an smell the windows of the pub had been put in and were boarded up the shared bathroom was disgusting mould round taps dirty toilet and absoloutely terrible stay
This was an overnight stay whilst I was in the area for work. It was quiz nighy in the pub below and the sound on the PA system must have been deafening for the contestants as it was very loud for me, especially in the music round.
Good points: Easy to find / parking / bedding clean / facilities to wash clothes.
Bad points: boarded up windows in pub below / noisy until 1145 pm / bed was v uncomfortable / bathroom small and mouldy.
AVOID!!!
What a shame, having stayed previously we wanted to give return business to this pub. Arrived and welcomed given key to room. That was the only thing good about our experience.
The bedroom we were in was a family room which had seen better days, the mattress on the double bed was broken. We requested a non smoking room but might as well have not bothered because the amount of smoke in the corridor that then came into the room was constant.
Bathroom was OK but very tired. The kitchenette should be condemned. Two fridges to use but not cleaned, when we stayed their was old mouldy food in both and they were just generally dirty.
Music from the bar was loud as they have changed into a sports bar which they do not list on online booking platforms.
I don't expect glamour for the cost we paid but I do expect a response from the owner. Sadly they have IGNORED all my emails as well as all the calls from the booking site to discuss our stay.
Such a shame
At check i asked would they be turning the heating on in the room during my stay. Yes the receptionist replied. Unfortunately this was not the case. The room was very cold and to the best of my knowledge the radiator was never turned on in the room having felt it a large number of times. Ended up having to sleep fully clothed and still wasn't warm enough.
Room and shared bathroom facilities were very good overall.
Great value stay at the very-friendly Queen's Head
Very friendly bar staff who showed a genuine interest in those visiting the Queen's Head, including recommending local places to dine - good to chat with ... All were first class, although I really only got to know Leah (the "face of the place" early to mid-week).
Good selection of beers and spirits ... Inch's cider on tap.
The 'Sports Bar' is well laid out - plenty tables/seats; televisions showing sporting events; pool table; dart board, etc.
The outdoor beer garden is a great resource.
The bedrooms with the shared bathroom are very basic - but excellent value for money.
I had a great stay at the Queen's Head and hope to return soon.

The Pub was ideal for my needs as I was staying for a couple of nights to attend a Football match. It was a decent base for a drink at the end of each day after exploring Durham in the evenings.

Suitable for my needs and in a convenient location.
Although the price was, I wasn't expecting a top class room. However, as a business traveller, I wasn't expecting music to start at 20:30 and to go all the way to midnight. My room was directly above where the music was being played so I had no chance of even attempting to go asleep. I would definitely not use this hotel again. I will be going back to hotels.com and demanding a refund.
