We walked into the hotel with the smell of smoke sticking to it. We checked in and went up stairs. The staff said our room number outloud, which for 2 women didn't feel safe but really wasn't safe for anyone. In the room the smoke detector hung from the ceiling. The toilet seat had duct tape on it. The room had numerous water damage spots on the walls and ceilings. We checked out and went to another location. I found out 2 days later that they didn't actually check us out. I went through the site and requested they not charge us for both days. They were unwilling to actually accommodate their created problem. At no point did they tell us they were renovating until we were trying to check out. We didn't feel safe with the thick smell of marjauna and other security flags. We didn't feel comfortable staying in a hotel that checked people in rooms that were not safe with practical things, so we are being punished for not wanting to stay where we didn't feel comfortable. We were understanding of being charged the first night, but should not have been charged both. I worked hospitality. This is the first time I am leaving a 1* review. This was the worst experience I have ever had with travel. Corporate will have the pictures too. The Holiday Inn up the road from here was much better, much safer staff, cleaner rooms, and didn't smell of marijuana and other smoke in the lobby and halls.
