Other Ways To Visit Jamaica
There are three international airports that receive flights to Jamaica and several local commuter airports available for domestic travel. The largest and busiest airport, used by most international travelers is undoubtedly the Sir Donald Sangster International Airport located in the resort city of Montego Bay. The city of Kingston is home to the second largest airport, the Norman Manley International Airport while the Ian Fleming International Airport can be found in Boscobel, Saint Mary Parish. The international airports receive flights from a variety of airlines including the popular local flag carrier, Air Jamaica, which has its home at Norman Manley and Sangster International airports. Each airport has a transportation information desk plus desks representing tour companies, hotels and rental cars. Taxis and a shuttle service are also available to carry travelers to their destinations.
Jamaica Weather
One of Jamaica's greatest attractions is its amazing weather with temperatures in the coastal areas averaging 26C to 30C year-round and dropping slightly at higher altitudes. May to December is the wet season, with the highest amount of rainfall during September and October. The hurricane season runs from June to November. Peak travel season is from December to April and prices for Jamaica flights tend to rise. Flights to Jamaica are possible throughout the year, and many people opt to book Jamaica flights during the off-season when the beaches are less crowded, and it is easier to secure great deals and cheap tickets.
Getting Around Jamaica
There are several options for travelers to get around Jamaica. There are four domestic airports that have flights between the main cities, and many rural centers are served by private fields. Car, motorcycle and bicycle rentals are available at reasonable prices, and well-maintained freeways make driving a pleasure in Jamaica. An extensive public transportation network links virtually every village by bus and minibus, and is the cheapest form of transport in Jamaica. Licensed taxis are available for those desiring the extra comfort, but they tend to be quite pricey. Public transportation is generally the best option for visitors to Jamaica.
