Staff very friendly and helpful lots of parking, nothing too much trouble would definitely recommend staying there and will stop there when next in that area.

We stayed in room 8. This room was below average, very tired looking bathroom & and not very clean, need money spending. Hot shower was a plus. Cobwebs an issue spiders visible but can’t be helped. Beware no fridge in this room. Double bed was poor quality and noisy. Bed linen was clean.
Pub a few steps away, friendly staff & regulars.
Location is at the top of a very steep hill, so not suitable for anyone with ailments or disabilities.
Excellent the room was outside in the grounds of the hotel. There were a few steps up to our room but not a problem. Very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was really good and good value.
The duke of Wellington is an extremely good pub (great beer, food and atmosphere etc) but the rooms are something else! All are outside in the pub grounds, very roomy, spotlessly clean and so comfortable. Also olde-worldey atmosphere but very beautifully done with excellent modern facilities. I can’t praise this accommodation highly enough. It’s about 1/2 mile from Matlock town but no need to go into Matlock to eat as the extensive menu is very good value and includes a range of vegetarian meals which was fab for me. Thank you to the team at the Duke of Wellington, we will be back soon!

Room was nice and clean (except for some high altitude spider webs 😝). Only criticisms were the pump / boiler / macerator / mechanical device that was ‘kicking in’ each hour or so for a couple of minutes (felt like we were on top of it) and Biffa collecting the glass recycling at 05:30 on a Bank Holiday Monday morning…😣
Very friendly management and staff. Large choice on main menu, would have liked a bit of choice for breakfast - smoked salmon or kippers for example.
Talking of breakfast, try and be down at 8 or 9 o'clock to hear the cacophony of all the non-synchronised clocks chiming.
One night stay for business, ate in the pub, all good. Room was functional with everything i needed. Would stay again!

Christmas stay
Room was reasonable but some mould in bathroom and a damp patch on floor maybe a leak from bathroom. Television didn’t work during the whole stay which was a little disappointing. However the breakfast was fabulous.

Not great at all
The rooms are in an out-building which is fine but our room wasn't in good condition at all. There was a lot of fresh black mold on the walls around the door (that I had to wipe down myself). There was also black mold higher up out of reach on the walls and ceiling. There was no curtain, just a blind that was missing the adjuster to close the blinds. The main room was very very basic. In the bathroom the bath was in a bad condition with it almost rotting away along the seals and the was a massive crack in the sink which actually later dropped out leaving a hole in the sink.
The bed was comfy enough and actually slept well but expected much better for the money.
Service on arrival was good so no complaints there but as we left early there was no one there to really express the dissatisfaction.
