Lovely property with convenient access to all the Black Hills locations, esp. Custer State Park. Walkable to restaurants and grocery. Fun decor. There was some road noise but a sound machine was available. The washer and dryer was an added convenience. Management was very responsive when we had a question. Would absolutely stay here again!

Black Hills visit
Property as described. Noise from highway during daylight working hours as we had read about prior to going. Location excellent. Very close, in downtown area. All within walking distance. Clean and everything we needed right there which is much appreciated. Mattress on bed could be upgraded. A bit hard. Great communication with owner. Code to enter the door only worked once. We used the key in the lock box after that. Thank you for the great place to stay!

We spent 5 nights in the apt. The pros: LOCATION. We were within 4 blocks to the restaurants we wanted to visit. There is a small grocery across the street. The apt is well appointed with everything we needed. CONS; It is on the main street and morning until about 8pm it is quite noisy. The bed is quite hard and the roku system was difficult to maneauver. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons.

An unpleasant stay
Upon arrival we noticed the room smelled like cigarette smoke. We contacted the owner who said she was aware of it as previous renters had notified her about it and she was hoping to get an air purifier installed in the future. We informed her we could not stay in a smoky environment as our child has asthma and we requested a refund for the 2 additional nights we could not stay. She agreed but the following morning told us that our first night was the most expensive night, while the Friday and Saturday during Sturgis(!) were the cheapest nights of our stay so we would only be refunded a much smaller amount. We informed her that bugs were present during our stay, including in the kitchen and one that crawled on us in bed at night. She finally agreed to give us a refund for the two nights only after demanding to see photos of the bugs. Later, after admitting others complained about the cigarette smoke she tried denying the cigarette smoke, stating it was just musty from being old. The apartment did not come with the appropriate amount of bath towels for three people. It was missing some dishes and basic utensils such as a spatula, ladle, measuring cups and spoons. The fridge seemed old with condensation in the freezer and no ice. There was no oven, stove, or dishwasher. There was an espresso maker but no coffee provided and no grinder for beans. There was a Keurig machine with kcups and a poorly stocked basket of cheap, generic snacks. We won't stay here again.

Cute and close
This is the cutest little place to spend a night or two in. The house has everything you need and super close to cute shops ans ample places to eat. Our host, Sarah was AWESOME! She had a few things she wanted to tell us about and we continued our conversation even after checkout. The only downfall is the parking, it’s right on main street and we were there while the Sturgis rally was around so it was busy. Other than that it was great! The Johnny Cash items are SO cool. Such a fun places.

Lovely stay in downtown Custer!
My sisters and I stayed here for an overnight getaway. It was fun being downtown. Walked to the Gold Pan and had a fun night out. The king bed was very comfy. Had an issue with getting the lock to lock when leaving the apartment, but Sarah and her husband were very responsive and drove from Hill City to help us out. They have a new lock on order so it won't happen again. Overall a lovely stay in Custer:) We would stay there again.

We loved our stay at the Custer Rambler! Loved having laundry and a kitchenette. Loved the location--walkable to downtown Custer for dinner, shopping, ice cream! There is a park a few blocks away for kids. Grocery store literally across the street. We loved having the apartment to ourselves--no noisy neighbors! Loved the location in the Black Hills/Custer State park area. The owners were very responsive. We had no issues with the property--the property was very clean! Beds were comfy. They have thought of all the details to make your stay great.

Our stay was short and sweet, stayed only a couple days and the place was exactly as offered updated appliances included, and two beds for the size of the room, we couldn’t decide if we wanted to watch tv so we left both beds open, wine was a great surprise, for the prices this is one of the best rentals you can get

Yikes
The location was the best part about this place. The parking directions she sent me in a pic vs the parking directions she told me contradicted themselves. My low score is how Sarah treats you. We both agreed that I could have a late check out, so my friend and I could go hiking the next morning and I could leave my dog during that time. I was appreciative and thanked her. That night, a very normal thunderstorm for SD occurred and the ceiling started leaking through the light fixture. Water sat in it overnight and the active leak stopped. Sarah started to get an attitude with me. She mentioned sending a maintenance guy to fix the light that morning with my dog inside the vrbo while we were gone. When I told her I was uncomfortable with that, as you never know what happens with dogs and strangers. She asked me if I brought a crate for my dog while on the trip, and told me the guy would be coming 2 hours before my scheduled (agreed upon) time of check out. I asked her if he could come after we checked out, the leak had already sat all night and wasn’t active any more. I know it sucks but I don’t live anywhere near SD and didn’t want to rush or have to stare at a guy fix a light when I can do that at home. She didn’t seem empathetic for us at all, and told me I was lucky she was letting me check out late at all and that I should be happy she didn’t charge me for the extra hours. This vrbo would be the best if the owners were more understanding, compassionate, and respectful.

The Custer Rambler rocks!
The owners have done a great job with the property. The Johnny Cash theme is a fun one. The unit is clean, comfortable and close to everything you need in Custer. The grocery store is across the street and most restaurants are within easy walking distance. The Mickelson trail is a block away and we got in a couple of beautiful bike rides during our stay. The Rambler is also a great launching pad for virtually everything else the Black Hills had to offer. We definitely want to stay here again!

We loved our stay in this unit. Everything about it was cozy and comfortable. We slept so good in the bed. Loved the comforter! Sarah was a great host.
