Wake up to the dawn chorus, practise yoga outdoors, or sip your morning cuppa while enjoying great farm views - wonderful ways to start your day.
Enjoy a peaceful and undisturbed day on the deck looking out across the farm. On a clear day, Mount Peel, Mount Somers and Mount Hutt can be seen from your front doorstep.
We are well away from cities and towns, so you will enjoy stunning clear Canterbury night skies devoid of light pollution.
Our tiny cottage is modern and comfortable, is double glazed and insulated, and includes a kitchen, spacious garden, heat pump/air conditioning, gas hot water, washing machine, dishwasher, oven, television, and free Wi-Fi. Bring your own food and drink and enjoy cooking in the cottage. There is plenty of room to park a camper or a car.
Locale
It is 5 mins drive from the cottage to the beach. The ocean is unsuitable for swimming due to undertows, but fishing is reasonably good. You may be lucky enough to see the hector’s dolphins. If you encounter fur seals, it’s important to stay back and give them space.
The property is close to the Rangitata River mouth, one of the most fished rivers in the Central South Island Region. It is 25-40 mins to Talbot Forest Scenic Reserve, Orari Gorge Track, Kakahu Track and Peel Forest Park Scenic Reserve.
Guest Access
Your cottage is located up a farm lane in a private setting with your own garden and no close neighbours, except for cows or calves.
Please be aware that this is a working farm, so look out for hazards such as trucks, tractors, electrified fence wire, livestock etc. If you have footwear you have worn on a farm, please disinfect it to prevent the spread of disease.
The Drift Inn restaurant is 18km away. Hinds Bar and Restaurant is 16km away. There are cafes at Hinds and Rangitata, and a small convenience store at Hinds.
The Space
Birds love our place. We have native birds like fantails, pied stilts and pukeko around the farm as well as songbirds, finches, and quail. You may also encounter unpopular visitors like possums, hedgehogs and hares which show up at night. Don’t worry: they won’t come and join you unless you keep your doors wide open.
This would be a wonderful place for you if you are looking for a rural break and a chance to escape a stressful and restricted lifestyle during this challenging period.
Contactless check-in…no need to see anyone. The cottage will be ready for your occupancy when you arrive.
