About this property

Bonnie's Guesthouse @ Peridot Equine Sanctuary

***ALL PROFITS SUPPORT THE HORSES OF PERIDOT EQUINE SANCTUARY***
The rustic decor and well lit space reflects the nature of our horse farm & sanctuary, where you can stay for a peaceful country getaway. We're rural, but you'll still have easy access to lots of amenities in the wonderful nearby town of Chardon, less than 10 minutes away. Cleveland itself, currently going through a "rustbelt renaissance" is only about 45 minutes minutes West. We welcome guests of all backgrounds!

The space
Complete one bedroom, one bath apartment attached to our home. The unit has its own garage and private entrance, washer & dryer, fully equipped kitchen (refrigerator, range/oven, 2 basin sink, plates, glasses, silverware, cookware, coffee maker, microwave). It also has a fenced in side yard for dogs, with door access through the laundry room. We're a dog friendly property! There's a wood burning stove, with plenty of wood in the garage and front side yard. There's also a small deck off the back door, with a view of the barn and some pastures.

Guest access
Guests may use/access anything and everything that's obviously part of the Guesthouse unit. We welcome interest in the horses, but ask guests not to enter the barn or pastures with out Lindsay or my husband Jason. We also ask that guests who bring dogs, keep them in the fenced in yard. We do an extremely quiet, controlled, non threatening one on one introduction through the fence, which allows our resident dogs to know who is staying here. After the introduction they typically go about their own business and are quite content having some temporary guests to share their property with. This process has worked well for all types of dogs; young, old, insecure, rambunctious, shy, loud, quiet, multiple dogs, large dogs, small dogs, dogs that are friendly, dogs that are unfriendly. The side yard is plenty large enough for even the bigger pups to run around and get some excess energy out or stretch their legs after being in the car. We provide doggy poop bags near the door to help keep the yard beautiful for the next guest and their puppy.

Other things to note
*We are not an official 501-C3 non-profit. We are a self-funded sanctuary (with an unincorporated non-profit status) that has taken in horses with behavioral issues over the course of Lindsay's lifetime of work with horses. As such, they are not suitable for guests to ride or handle. Additionally, our insurance does not allow it.

**Due to the constraints on our time as a self-funded and self-run facility, we are no longer offering our barn tour and introduction to the horses as a complimentary amenity. For $10 per person we would be happy to arrange a barn tour and introduction to the horses ahead of time. We schedule our barn tours and introduction to the horses at 9:30 AM after breakfast, when all the horses are still in the barn. After that, they are turned out in the fields for the day and can only be observed over the fence at that point. We would be happy to answer questions you may have about care, feeding and horses in general during the barn tour.

***While the property is overall extremely peaceful, this is a working horse farm. We make every effort to keep noise and disruption to a minimum for our guests, but at times there is ongoing maintenance and repair of the property and equipment, to keep things running. We also have a dump trailer used for manure removal in the winter. That said, we've never had complaints about manure odors as we try to keep the barn and property very clean.

****Our check in time is 4pm and check out time is 12noon. There is an additional $25 fee for early check-ins/late check-outs up to 2pm on either side. A check in/out earlier/later than 2pm is subject to availability and is a $75 fee, due to having to block out the night prior/after to accommodate such requests.

*****Internet: We've placed a WiFi range extender in the unit, to allow access to our home network. Simply refresh the network settings on your laptop or mobile device, until you see the network names listed above. *Please note the "_Ext" at the end of the network name. That is the WiFi range extender. Our home networks are the same, but without the "_Ext" suffix. If you mistakenly connect to our home network, you'll have a poor connection. Lastly, the "2G" generally has a longer range, while the "5G" has shorter range but can be slightly faster.
There's a private patio. A kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, an oven, and a stovetop. Complimentary wireless internet access is available to keep you connected. The bathroom has a shower/tub combination and a hair dryer. Conveniences include a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.
Enjoy recreation amenities such as a water park or take in the view from a garden. Additional amenities at this guesthouse include a living plant wall and barbecue grills.
Guests will find features like internet access and onsite parking.

Rustic Charm
We admire folks that do good works. It is amazing to experience the love and compassion that these folks provide to these beautiful misfits. The peaceful setting and stay was a humbling experience. The location was great for our visit to Presque Isle in Erie, Pa and then to Cuyoga National Park in Ohio for bike trail rides. Highly recommend a stay and a visits to both of these beautiful parks. Very welcoming and comfortable. I travel with my dog and it’s great to have a fenced in yard attached to the apartment. Hosts are wonderful! How often do you get to experience a working horse farm? Loved it and will return.

Peaceful home
Easy check in - pull right into garage and walk into unit through the man door from garage - straight into laundry/mud room. If you have pets with you- it is a perfect scenerio set up. They have a beautiful shaded fenced area for your dogs. This is a hard find at this price point and everything available in one unit. I didn't catch the no air conditioning but it was absolutely okay, we opened the windows and ran the curling fans. Never once felt hot. Our evening was spent on the porch relaxing watching the horses & birds. The unit has everything you need for a stay away from home. Maybe come back next time when the weather is cold to utilize that wood burner! Thank you for sharing this unit.

Beautiful stay!
We stopped in for one cozy, rainy night on our road-trip and enjoyed our time so much! The guest house has everything you need, full kitchen, living room, beautiful bedroom, and the bathroom has a great tub for relaxing. We had a quiet night’s sleep in the big bed. It was so fun to wake up and see the horses and dogs in the stable across the lawn. If we come back through the area sometime, we would love to spend more time and visit the stable!

Nice cute place
We really liked the place. It was nice having a fenced in yard for the dog. The only thing I wish was different was that we could have walked our dog around the property or down the road but we could not because they have 2 dogs & we respected that. Luckily it was not a problem because we took our dog with us when we went somewhere and gave him a good walk there. So all in all it was perfect for what we needed it for. If we were going to be around the property more with our dog, we probably would not be staying there. The hosts were very respectful of our privacy also. I appreciate that a lot. Five star rating for what it was!

A Breath of Fresh Air
If you’re looking for a relaxing place to stay that benefits an extremely worthwhile cause consider staying at Bonnie’s Guesthouse. Lindsay and Jason have an amazing place, set in a beautiful country setting, surrounded by their sweet rescue horses. The VRBO was exactly as pictured and was perfect for us and our three city dogs who were exposed to country living. The guesthouse was very clean, perfect setup for a weekend getaway. We came from NC to Ohio for a family wedding and we were so pleased with this home. Lindsay and Jason were such great hosts but gave us all the privacy we needed. It was amazing to see the amount of love and work they put into caring for the rescued horses. We highly recommend Bonnie’s Guesthouse for anyone looking for a unique experience in a beautiful country setting. Thank you again, Lindsay, for your accommodation.
