Fun right outside your door!
This place is literally in the middle of nowhere and we loved it! Honestly I thought I was going the wrong way because it’s a narrow dirt road and the house is pretty far down. We had a wide age and this place worked perfectly. The littlest could walk down to the creek right behind the house and have a perfect place to play. While the older teens and adults could explore just about anywhere they turned! There were lots of cars parking on the road in front of the house and all the way down to the party going to sliding rock. The hike to sliding rock is easy and gorgeous! Loved the house and location. Would say there could be so improvements but nothing too major. It also may time to schedule a deep clean.

Great place, but the bugs!
We rented this cabin for our group of 7 people. We traveled with 4 kids under the age of 16 and 3 adults. The cabin was the perfect size for the group. We placed the adults upstairs and the kids downstairs and everybody was happy. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were clean. Overall the house was clean and there were no issues with the cleanliness of the bathrooms and kitchen. Slide rock is about a half mile hike up from the cabin and the kids loved that place. It was an easy hike on a well kept dirt road. The road to the cabin was well maintained and we really felt like we had that part of the mountain to ourselves. The stream in the back was great for the kids to play and explore within shouting distance of the porch. The grill was clean and we grilled out a few of the nights while there. Helen was only 30 minutes away so finding things to do away from the cabin was also easy. I can honestly say the only issue we had was with the bugs. There were tons of fruit flies and just other bugs that a person usually finds outdoors inside the living areas. We did not call Vacasa and complain about this because we felt there was nothing that could be done while we were staying there. It was obvious that they were aware of the bug problem because there were bug traps in almost every room. I can say we would probably stay here again, but bring our own bug spray and fly catchers. The bugs could be due to the wilderness outside, so we did try to take that into consideration.

Beautiful location/mixed review
The pros. Everyone felt they had their space and separation. It is very private and the creek behind the home is beautiful! A short walk down the road is waterfalls and just a gorgeous walk and play area. The down side. The code for check in didn’t work but the back door was unlocked which was uncomfortable. They request no shoes in the house and we tried, but the floors were so dirty we couldn’t stand it. Lots of dead bugs. Stove wasn’t cleaned. Smashed bugs and drips on the walls and a load of wet towels in the dryer that we found three days in. There are spiders everywhere we killed 4-5 every day. Some were brown recluse which is concerning. We found a previous visitors wallet in a drawer with the cleaners check list. Several lights in the house didn’t work. We contacted VaCasa with our concerns. They refunded us our cleaning fee and we appreciated it.

Fun and semi-secluded
The home was relaxing and private. There is a trail or something just passed the house so there is some traffic throughout the day. You can open the double doors right off the dining/kitchen area to listen to the creek and have fresh air. The home has plenty of space for four adults and three kids. The downstairs was humid and I agree with the other comments that the property management is lacking. The housekeeping didn’t clean and sanitize the home, the oven knobs were grimey, and the home did not have an overall clean feeling. The backyard did smell like sewage. Customer service is great though. We had issues with the code to get into the time and they fixed the issue rather quickly.

New favorite spot
My husband and i came up for the weekend to celebrate my son's birthday with his wife and 18 month old sassy grand daughter. The "must have" on his request was a nearby creek. This place definitely checked that box, and many others. We are already planning another, extended stay at Catnip II, with the rest of the kids. To give an honest review, I feel I must mention that the dishwasher is in GREAT NEED of a thorough cleaning! And, we stayed just 2 nights and did NOT put anything in the commodes other than toilet paper, but.. septic system MAJOR issues morning we were leaving. As in....tub downstairs full of upstairs toilet contents. And, it would have been nice to be able to use the proper grill the second night, but, it ran out. So, I'm really hoping the septic issue isn't a recurring thing, as we will have more people in our party next time, and plan on staying longer. We couldn't spend much time in game room, too cold. Needs another heating source down there, and need more seating upstairs.

Location Location and that’s about it…
So I hate to do this, because I think this review is less about property ownership, and more about the property management. But you need to be aware that although you’re booking through Vrbo, you’ll be expected to download a completely different app to receive any pertinent info about your stay. Let’s start from the beginning: First, we arrived after 9pm, complete pitch black darkness (don’t get me wrong- we wanted this remote location and had seen it on another trip)- but there are no lights lighting the path to unload a vehicle in pitch black darkness. My mother in law, who has limited mobility, had a hard time navigating the dark uneven walkways. Inside, we were a little blown away by the lack of care taken to repairs, paint, updates, etc. Look, I can live with a clean, yet outdated couch- but this place has leak marks, scuffs, paint issues, overall “look” of being unkept and uncared for. I understand this is a family home, and from the looks of it, they haven’t been there to visit in a very long time. The home is desperately in need of cosmetic repairs- peeling paint in basement, brown marks all over ceilings from leaks, and just overall outdated appearance and the look of neglect. Other things that need attention: WIFI- none of the info was accurate, and when we finally played around with the different networks (a different one than listed in home) we had virtually NO service. Traveling with someone working on the road was a complete NO GO. Additionally, we had so little service that had the property manager from Vacasa not called me about checking the basement for flooding, we wouldn’t have had any info about checking out or where to take garbage, etc. (News flash- it’s to the Vacasa office in Helen, Ga!). There are no booklets inside the home stating any of this. Just download an app that you won’t have enough service to download on site. As for the positive aspects: LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!! this cabin sits directly on Wildcat Creek, a trout-fed stream about 2 mi off of Lake Burton. It is absolutely breathtaking scenery. On top of that, you’re a quick 15 min walk (or short drive) from the famous sliding rock in the creek. It’s absolutely beautiful, we caught several trout, and had a wonderful family experience (once we accepted that the place was somewhat clean- just badly appointed)… will go back, but not with extended family who have more needs than this house can provide. My advice: go! But be aware. And don’t overpay.

Gorgeous home w/ cute mice
Lers start with the most important facts - home is great & the location is amazing. Now picture this...you’ve been driving for 6 hours with four kids and pull up to the cutest home nestled in the mountains; youve never been more excited to get out of the car! walk up to the front door to use the lock box to find that the lock doesn’t work - the house is unlocked, it’s dark, your in the mountains...is this the beginning of a scary movie? Luckily, no murderers were waiting for us! Woohoo! Guess what was waiting for us? The cutest black and white mouse - alive - under the covers of our bed. We named him Frank. He let us relocate him to the yard, but he was really bummed that I didn’t want to snuggle - sorry Frank - I’m married. Unfortunately, it looked like Frank probably has other roommates bc most of the furniture downstairs had mouse poop on it, as well as the floors upstairs and down. I don’t mind the mouse, it’s a mountain home, but I would expect the company (Vacasa) who is managing this rental to provide locking doors and to be cleaning all surfaces between guests. We WOULD stay here again, but would just hope for a better cleaning crew next time.

Lovely cabin in the woods
Cute cabin, comfy beds, and I love that the bathrooms aren’t attached to rooms so it’s great for groups. The game room downstairs is awesome and the creek behind the house is so soothing. 25 minute drive to Helen. Bring food and such with you. The closest grocery is 20+ minutes away and the general store doesn’t have a ton of options.

Nice and remote
This is a cute little cabin in the woods. Long drive up gravel road to get there, and a bit of weekend traffic to the campgrounds beyond the cabin. Rushing stream out back would have been nice to sleep to, had the ceiling fan not drowned it out. Okay amenities, and plenty of room for the entire family (5). Gorgeous area.
