Unfortunately this hotel is going downhill. I've stayed here many times over the years and used to really like it but last few times the room is not cleaned well, including some pretty gross discoveries in the bathroom. Rooms smell faintly of stale cigarette smoke. Hotel is generally starting to get shabby with carpets coming apart, wallpaper peeling, stains on the in-room furniture, elevator malfunctions, etc. The lobby and lobby bar are still nice and the free coffee in the morning is good. Staff are pleasant.

The room was very clean! The bed was very comfy! Very close to Millineum Park. Very close proximity to the L for easy transportation wherever you need to go! Would stay here again!

I stayed at the Silversmith Hotel in downtown Chicago in November and the room was extremely hot, around 74 degrees, with no way to cool it down. I told the front desk, and they said the air conditioning was turned off for the season and there was no engineer available to help. The hotel was sold out so they couldn’t move us to another room. Their only solution was to give us a fan and tell us to open the windows, which did not help because of the sirens and train sounds. For a hotel in this price range, I expect a comfortable room and a working temperature system, not a fan in the middle of downtown Chicago. It made the stay uncomfortable and difficult to sleep. Staff were polite, but the issue wasn’t resolved. Very disappointing experience.
