The Silversmith is an excellent boutique hotel. I have downrated it because they charge a JUNK FEE called a historic preservation fee, in other words, a new name for "resort fee," "convenience fee"-- another way to raise the room price while making it look more competitive.

Great hotel experience! Near the park, the river, the Art Museum. Nearby self parking with hotel discount was very manageable. Staff was very nice and helpful. The L running on Wabash is a bit noisy, but the double windows made it immaterial. We’d happily stay here again.

Don't typically write reviews but was so disappointed in this hotel. The room smelled musty and moldy when walking in. The room was in terrible condition with stains and mold throughout. The couch was so worn it was nearly unusable. One of our guests planned to stay on the pull out but the couch was so filthy we ended up sharing beds. The carpet was quite dirty. Our white socks were black on the bottom after waking around the room. The bathroom sink backed up. The shower floor was visibly worn and dirty. This hotel is advertised as a 4 star hotel. Honesty, I've stayed at a motel that was in better shape. The price was quite high, to say I am disappointed is an understatement. I don't feel like I am overly picky or someone with unattainable standards. The condition of the hotel room was totally unacceptable.

The bigger Latino male who worked at the restaurant/bar was quite rude to me. I requested a room with a view when I made the booking and was given a view of the side of a brick building. No pool and noisy train outside.

The location of the hotel and the front desk hospitality were amazing! The rooms and furniture are a little dated and not in the best conditions but the room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable (best sleep I’ve had in a hotel in a while!) and our room had a really nice bathroom. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in the Loop

The best part of our time there was the Desk person, Beverly! She was the best! Very accommodating. Made sure we had the information we needed for our stay and provided us with bus and train routes where we were wanting to go. We really appreciated when she informed us where we should get off that it would not be safe for us after a certain stop. She made our time there more enjoyable and safer for our outings.

The front staff were amazing. They were so cheerful and friendly. The bar staff could use a little more personality and I felt like I was bugging them at times. The room was nice size and enjoyed having a step in shower. The linens were super soft and was great to have a bath robe provided. It's location is pretty good and is right across from The Bean/Millien Park. Was easy to catch the L Train as well. Was about a 5 min walk to The Riverwalk so that was nice as well. Would recommend if you're looking for a nice hotel without the high cost of The Riverwalk

The beauty of boutique hotels like Silversmith is that you get a unique experience - it is not just a place to stay. In the case of the Silversmith that includes architecture, which maintains the appearance and atmosphere from the turn of the prior century. There is a good reason the building is concidered a historic location. It is conveniently located in the Loop so everything we come for is within walking distance - the theater district, the waterfront, restaurants, museums, etc. Both another reason we keep coming back is the staff, who for better or worse have also come to recognize us. Each return feels less like staying at a hotel, and more like staying with friends who happen to have very large building and lots of guests. Every member of the staff exudes positivity, including the valet and housekeeping, even though we do not use either during our stays. The front desk, however, is where that really shows as every guest is greeted each time they pass through the lobby on their way in our out - friendly and geniune. We apprecaite every member of the management, but I would be remiss if I did not call out Beverly by name as she has been a part of our last several stays, and we hope that is true next time as well.

Service was excellent. The room was huge and comfortable. The shower soaps and shampoo smelled awesome. The TV was hard to operate and the remote seemed useless. The couch was in need of repair as the seat was slumping in the middle. The pillows were too mushy, I did use the extra pillow in the closet for some firmness I was happy with the appearance, security, and friendliness of all the staff.

The front desk staff were exceptional! Beverly and Courtney were so friendly, professional and helpful and security guard Lloyd really helped us out. The location was so convenient and having a Target store so close for essentials was just perfect.

The shower was filthy, the restroom trash was not emptied and I found contact lenses trash behind the toilet. The staff was great, very friendly and knowledgeable. The location is amazing and felt safe to walk around at night. I’m just so disgusted by the shower.
