The hotel is fine if a little tired and dated. Location is really what it’s all about here, it’a incredibly convenient for the city centre, the three different stadia and events at the Castle (which is why I was there). I booked it as an alternative to one of the Premier Inns as it has a car park. Unfortunately I was emailed two days before my stay to say all the main roads around that part of the city centre would be shut, so I couldn’t use the car park which was frustrating but not the hotel’s fault.
The worst part of the stay by far was getting stuck in the lift for 75 minutes, in the dark. There doesn’t appear to be any back up generator for a bit of light, even, which I assume is down to the lifts being old too. I was stuck with another woman who was attending a wedding at the hotel, I was attending a gig at the cancel and was due to meet friends which I missed out on. Although someone came to ask if we were ok outside the lift a few times, the communication of when we might be freed was poor, and when the fire brigade came to force the doors and help us out, there was no-one from the hotel to even check we were ok. Pretty poor customer service, we were just left to go on our way without even an apology from the hotel. I mentioned it on checking out but even then there wasn’t much acknowledgment of losing more than an hour of our days stuck in the dark in a bloody stuffy lift! Not impressed, won’t be staying there again. Back to the Premier Inn for me!
