"Retired couple who spent 2 weeks touring Portugal and loved our 3 days at this property. It was, by far, our most authentic lodging, making us feel connected to the home and region. It is as described, a unique home set high up the bluff from the river and literally carved out of the stone. While there, we took the train into Porto (an easy trip but skip the CP website and buy your tickets on the train) for a day and also spent an entire afternoon on the terrace enjoying the sun and the gorgeous view of the Douro valley. The roads and villages around it are scenic and lightly traveled. This is a great place for those seeking peaceful and natural surroundings and who value getting a little separation from the crowds yet being close enough to still enjoy them.
