We liked everything about the Sonesta - comfortable room, great bars and restaurants, excellent pool facility (which our grandkids loved), friendly approachable staff (particularly at the Source, the Starbucks cafe for breakfast). The one thing that let it down was billing. I left a credit card on arrival but quickly realised that I would get foreign exchange charges if I paid my bills with this card. Within 2-3 hours I asked for the charge card to be changed and, after 5 minutes of to-big and fro-ing, was assured that everything had been changed over to my preferred card. Imagine my surprise and annoyance when, on checking later, that several large charges were in fact registered against the initial card. At this point the fx charges haven’t been assigned to these transactions but it could end up costing me an additional £60-70. Not happy and has marred an otherwise excellent family trip.

It's ok. We stayed here a few times 10 years ago and it was in much better condition. The furniture and carpets are showing their age. Dirty and in need of replacement and remodelling. The beds are clean and comfy and the vibe in the lobby and bars are good.

Booked a stay through Expedia late at night and when I arrive an Older guys with a bad attitude told me that I needed to wait until 3 in the afternoon for check in. When I told him that my car got blocked in a garage he offered me a room which I had to pay extra for when I had already booked one. The point of the story is that this guy was willing to give me a room as long as I paid extra when I had already booked one through Expedia. These are not good people. He had rooms available, he just wanted to take my money. Not a place that deserves any business.

Je suis arrivée à midi et comme ma chambre était déjà prête, ils m'ont permis de m'y installer sans frais. Très bon service à l'arrivée. À la sortie ma femme a acheté 2 cafés régulier pour 9$ canadien au Café de l'Hotel. Le carton était tellement peu rigide que la pression dessus l'a fait ouvrir; déversant le café brulant dans le véhicle. Arrivée à la sortie du parking, j'ai dû m'obstiner avec un employé qui doutait que j'avais réellement payer le parking. La carte d'accès ne fonctionnait simplement pas pour sortir. Le type m'a traité comme un voleur avant de me laisser sortir. Rendu sur l'autoroute, c'est mon café qui a littérallement ouvert pendant que je conduissait, m'ébouillantant. La fin du voyage a vraiment été très ordinaire. Pour le reste l'hôtel était bien, le personnel courtois sauf le gars du stationnement.

We loved the room amenities and convenient access to all things historic - parking throughout the city was really confusing, but it was nice to have a designated spot to park with easy in/out privileges. The view was amazing! While the pool wasn’t “kid-fun” enough, it was not the reason why we came. My son asked if we could stay in more Royal Sonesta's when we travel in the future - we just might!

Bewarw the price vs your booking.
They did not Honor at first the price of hotel.com. I did a long 30 minutes lineup to fix it. Told me it was fixed. The next morning at checkout it still wasn't fixed and they charge me 130usd more then the hotel.com booking. I had to send the lady the e-mail proving it and she fixed it. But if I had not thoroughly checked my bill VS my booking I would have been in for a surprise.

Pros: -river view room really had a great view -food was great, -room and hotel were clean and safe Cons: - I couldn't connect to wifi in my room. had to walk down hall to elevator to connect. even then speeds were awful (6 times slower than my phone when I checked), and regularly just didn't work. Front desk referred me to an offsite IT group that never resolved the issue. This seriously impacts your visit. - housekeeping came in and cleaned my room several times without my consent, even though I had the Do Not Disturb sign up. This has never happened to me at another hotel. - this wifi issue might be specific to the river-room views, because they are in a corner of the building. choose your room carefully! Also because of how those rooms are clustered, they also have connecting doors, which makes noise travel easily. I could hear my neighbor's conversation the entire trip. - I never used the pool, mostly because there was a conference going on when I was there. a pool sounds great until 300 grad students have the same idea. didn't sound relaxing. - very minor, but the location seems so confusing for Uber drivers to navigate. It seems close to Kendall Sq., but it always took much longer than expected to leave the area around the hotel to get further into Cambridge. plan extra pickup and transit time when going anywhere by car

Property was in a great location that was safe and on the water. Parking was among the best I have had staying somewhere. Staff were friendly and kind. Only negatives were that the AC couldn't keep up in the room and we were only able to check in around 7pm. Would stay again.

No clean rooms were available at check-in even though we were checking in at 8 pm. This meant waiting around for over an hour to get a room after a long flight with two very young children when it felt like 1am in the morning. General cleanliness of the hotel was poor with lots of dirty seats and tables in the lobby area and also the swimming pool was pretty disgusting with a layer of scum around the outside of the pool. And the changing rooms to the pool were disgusting. Overall, it felt like some parts of the hotel were maintained okay whilst other parts had been very neglected. This may have been a good four-star hotel many years ago but now it felt like a poor three star hotel.
