I was repeatedly assured the reserved flat would be ready for us on the dates we needed- all communications, including at the hour of our arrival indicated we were set; however, as we waited outside in the rain at the property, we were then informed it was not available, and we would need to wait for the key of a different property-
As it turned out, there was dropped communication between the host team, but they scrambled to not leave us stranded, renting last minute a whole new flat where they apparently lost money-
Our original booking included sleeping for 4, while the new last minute flat technically only slept 3- thankfully, our teenager loves couches, and the living room couch was a comfy one.
I later found out the host was in the hospital, so I wish them all the best- and do want it clearly noted: they did not abandon us in the hour we were desperate for a place at the height of summer travel season , and the apartment they rented us worked well for our stay in Bergen- the lesson for me: do not only trust host comments ( there could be understandably lost communication among a host team, as was the case here ), but verify dates within the general VRBO system
