The good: This was a pretty solid property in terms of comfort. Kitchen was well stocked, beds were very comfortable, large master bedroom, and was overall pretty cozy. The set-up in the backyard is really nice for hanging out, and everything felt pretty private in a mostly rural setting. Parking situation was great. The property owners had some nice small touches, like leaving some stuff for s'mores. The property owner gave me access to the property early in the day without me asking, which was nice.
The bad: There were quite a lot of mouse droppings evident in the kitchen. We had to do a decent bit of cleaning to get rid of those. It's almost impossible to keep mice out of the house in a rural setting, so I'm pretty understanding, but it's not ideal. The location of the property is not great. I wanted a place in Fayetteville. I grew up about 10 minutes from this place and can confirm that the property is the absolute furthest you can be from town and still have a Fayetteville address. Still, we're only talking about 20 minutes to get to just about anywhere in Oak Hill or Fayetteville, so it's not that big of a deal. There was one incident after checking out where the cleaning crew found some cigarette butts in the exterior hot tub filter. We did a good job cleaning up the place before leaving, but I didn't realize that anyone even used the hot tub, so it didn't occur to me to check it for cleaning. I was embarrassed and apologized when the property owner called, but I feel like they overreacted a bit. I agree that it's gross, but it was an honest mistake, and hardly something likely to cause damage. Still, my mistake and I take responsibility.
Overall, I think this is a pretty good option for a family or a modest-sized party.
