Waterfront, heated, beach 2 minutes, sunrise, waterview, pets, dock, Wharf House

The Wharf House is a historical home located on beautiful, serene Hancock Point – but unlike many Maine vacation homes, it is fully renovated and offers all the conveniences of a modern home -- all the while you are enjoying the rustic beauty of Maine and its spectacular summers.
The Wharf House – with its many windows and skylights -- is light and airy (with a vaulted ceiling in the kitchen and dining area) and has a modern open interior design.
Perched on a small hill overlooking Frenchman Bay and Hancock Point Wharf, you will wake up to spectacular views of Schoodic Mountain (part of Acadia National Park), Frenchman Bay, the Hancock Point Wharf, and the many working and summer boats of Hancock Point.
During the day you can watch the boats come in and out of the harbor, including the many lobster boats based at the Point. In the evening, you can retire on the front deck and gaze at gorgeous sunsets. Hancock Point Wharf is a working wharf that welcomes sailboats, kayaks and lobster fishermen.
The kitchen is large, modern and fully equipped, and includes a large island for food prep and seating for 4. There is also a large dining area next to the kitchen with a dining room table that seats 8. The kitchen is completely stocked for simple or gourmet cooking.
The first floor has a queen bedroom with a ceiling fan, storage and a large full bathroom with a tub/shower.
On the first floor you will find the living room area with a large sectional sofa and a 50"TV (with firestick HDTV). There is also a large enclosed and heated sunroom area with a sofa and a table for playing cards or games. The sunroom faces Frenchman Bay though multiple windows and a large glass sliding door. Through the glass door is a large front deck with Adirondack chairs for people watching, or stargazing at night.
The second floor has a master bedroom with a king-sized bed, and a full bathroom. The full bathroom includes a stacked washer/dryer.
There is a large loft-style bedroom with 3 twin sized beds (including 1 set of bunkbeds).
Within walking distance there are clay tennis courts, local restaurants, a local library, churches, hiking, biking and the famous "Carters Beach".
Rent a kayak or boat to use at the house, hunt for sea glass on the waterfront, or just lay out in the sun.
Hancock Point and surrounding areas are part of a Frenchman Bay Conservancy. There are turtles, birds, and other natural wildlife to experience here, or just take a walk on the beaches at low tide to look for sea glass. You will truly appreciate the local saying "Maine, the Way Life Should Be" when you stay at the Wharf House on beautiful Hancock Point.
Acadia National park, Winter Harbor, Schoodic Point and more are all within 15 mile drive from Hancock Point. The city of Ellsworth is about 5 miles away with excellent grocery stores and a number of good restaurants.
Your 1 pup is welcome with a pet agreement and $100 pet fee per stay. There is a refundable security deposit of $500
** A 3% credit card processing fee will be charged on all cancellations. Please review the cancellation policy.
Make yourself comfortable in this vacation home, featuring a kitchen with a refrigerator and an oven. There's a private patio. Conveniences include a phone, as well as a microwave and a coffee/tea maker.

Wonderful scenic location!
This house was in a great scenic location in a quiet neighborhood on the water. It was about 40 minutes to Bar Harbor/Acadia, but the scenic location made the distance worth it. The house was generally well-equipped for our needs. Reliable high-speed internet was also a plus. Unfortunately, the house had a pretty bad housefly problem, especially in the upstairs bathroom. The property managers promptly responded with fly traps when we alerted them to the problem, but it didn't make much of a difference.

Beautiful location and close to Bar Harbor
Our stay was good. The bigger bedroom upstairs needs a plug for the bedside light. Upstairs showers needs alot of cleaning. It's a unique kind of tile that looked dirty and maybe mold growing? There is alot of space and seating to be able to sit and enjoy your stay. Our favorite was buying lobster right off the fishing boat and cooking. If you are an older adult you might be aware that there is no handrail on the stairway. But this might be because of the house being in the period style. But by the end of our stay we had gotten really good at hugging the wall. lol I loved the location and it was easy to get to Bar Harbor. I would stay in the area again just for the location.

Fantastic location. The hard water issue was awful. The showers were stained so terribly and the bad sulfur smell was horrible. This was a shame because everything else was great.

Wonderful home!
The Wharf House on Hancock Point was perfect. Great home with lovely views. The kids enjoyed fishing on the dock across the street, playing ping pong in the garage, riding bikes with local kids, playing tennis on the neighborhood courts, and looking for creatures along the shore at low tide. Thanks for a great week!

Great cozy yet roomy beach house. Lots of windows and great view. Great location, great place for morning and evening walks. Would definitively come back to stay here. Kids loved it too. Right near the water fland lots to keep them busy on the shore hunting for sea glass. We were all sad to leave!

House looks great. Unfortunately, a winter storm hit and we had no power, heat or water... but Susan the property manager booked us into a nearby hotel for the first night and then had another house available in the area which accepted also our dog. Communication and service form the manager was great. Both houses were very clean and in very good conditions.

Stay here!
I think my favorite part of our visit to Maine was the view (and the sounds - bell, birds, etc.) from the wharf house. So quaint, a little activity in the wharf area, but definitely didn’t have a touristy feel, which we appreciated. House is really nice inside. Bunk bed area is not an actual room… more of an open space. Susan was very responsive with any questions we had. Overall, we LOVED our stay!

Beautiful home, gorgeous views, perfect location
My family of 4 plus our dog stayed here for 7 nights to explore the Acadia area and nearby coastline. It was the perfect place for us and we loved staying here. They even provided dog dishes and a large bin of doggy tennis balls! Pros: - Location is perfect for exploring multiple areas - reasonably close to Mt Desert Island and the Schoodic Peninsula, and a great place to start a drive up the coast - Nice neighborhood for walking/biking, with access to the shoreline near Carter's Beach (however, beware of LOTS of vehicle traffic near the wharf if you have small children or pets) - Very spacious and lots of light during the day - Lots of soft seating in the living area (and seating in general) - Very well-stocked kitchen - we cooked 2 dinners and all breakfasts there, and had plenty of pans, dishes, utensils, etc. - Ample towels - Beautiful view from the front porch, and greenery all around the rest of the house - Though there is no A/C, there are so many windows and a nice breeze from the water, that we were comfortable even on very hot days - The basket of maps, brochures, restaurant recommendations, grocery store info, etc. was very much appreciated! Cons: - Very busy wharf area - lots of cars, people, and noise all hours of the day (from fishermen at 4am to partiers at midnight) - The water has extremely high mineral content - there is a definite smell and color to it, so I'd definitely bring drinking water if that bothers you (though the filtered water from the fridge dispenser was fine) Overall, I highly recommend this place and we'd definitely book here again if we come back to the area!

The house is adorable. Well stocked kitchen and garage (grill, bikes, ping pong table…). The view of the water and access to the dock was perfect for our family. My boys were able to fish every day. The house comfortably slept our family of 5. We would definitely stay here again!

Just what we needed!
We spent a week at the Wharf House and it was a wonderful experience. After a day of exploring places such as Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and Schoodic Point, we would return to the tranquility of Hancock and what felt like our home away from home. Early morning views of the water, long walks, and the warm and friendly people both locally and throughout the state had us all fall in love with Maine. I hope we will have the opportunity to return in the future!

Off-season/April vacation stay
The layout of this home is lovely. We had 7 guests in total (of all ages) and fully enjoyed and utilized the space. We took trips to Acadia, Bar Harbor, and the Tidal Reserve (recommended in the home’s welcome book) and found this home to be a wonderful retreat after long/fun days. I would recommend this home to anyone who is comfortable driving a bit of a distance to see the main attractions. The walks we took each morning along the shore were breathtaking … and full of sea glass. Enjoy!

Wonderful stay at the Wharf House
We all (two adult couples) loved our stay. The house was as described, but seemed bigger in person. We had no issues with the house ie it was very clean, well appointed and everything worked. The views were outstanding. Walked along the point and the shore at low tide everyday. So peaceful. Easy access to Acadia National Park. Communications were smooth and easy with Susan. We will be back!

The house was beautiful and the view was awesome! Close proximity to everything we wanted or needed. The upstairs shower left a little to be desired, however, there was lots of space for several people. We also had lots of issues in running the television and no instructions could be found. Over all it was a great place to stay and the reservation process was relatively easy. Thanks for sharing this property with us so we could make this a great trip for our mother! Tess C. Iowa

We enjoyed a week at this beautiful property in Hancock Point overlooking the water. The house is located in a lovely, walkable neighborhood very close to Carter’s beach. Fabulous location!
The location of this property is fantastic! Outside of the chaos of Mt Desert Island, Hancock Point allows you to truly enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the area. The house location couldn’t be better! We launched our kayaks directly across the street from the house for fantastic trips around Frenchman’s Bay! House itself has a good floor plan and a great kitchen. Only downside, which I don’t know they can do anything about, is the tap water in the house smells bad and tastes funny. Not sure if that’s the water source or the pipes. Don’t let it stop you from staying; just plan to buy plenty of bottled water. Overall we had a great time and Sarah was very easy to work with!
