Park Cottage is a Grade II listed 17th Century thatch cottage located in Baslow on the edge of the Chatsworth Park. The quaint property, with private walled garden, came in to the Devonshire Estate in 1823. This was part of an exchange between the 6th Duke of Devonshrie, and the Duke of Rutland, and was at that time occupied by and estate labourer.
An estate survey carried out in 1858 described the property as: 'House, stone and thatched. House place, Kitchen, Pantry, two Chambers and a small stable adjoining.' It is thought that the small stable is the slate roofed, single storey section of the property which has in modern times been used as a kitchen and bathroom.
Park Cottage has been recently refurbished during the summer of 2011 by the Duchess of Devonshire to provide self-catering holiday accommodation for three people.
Guests at Park Cottage are free to walk at any time (with their dogs on a lead) through the kissing gate park access (close to the cottage) through the 1,100 acres of Chatsworth Park which owes much of its appearance to Lancelot 'Capability' Brown.
