Absolutely charming and convenient
This apartment is absolutely charming! It is furnished simply, with vintage pieces, has all essentials, and truly feels like a home rather than an impersonal hotel room. Orestis is easy to communicate with (excellent English; he studies in the US), was extremely on top of our arrival time and responsive to all questions. His friendly mother Olga was at the unit when we arrived to show us the apartment. The split-level air conditioning units work fantastically— one in each room and one for the rest of the place. There’s a convenient place for coffee across the street (or use the coffee maker), also close to a mini-mart with food and misc. The building is next to a busy intersection but the patio doors shut out the noise. My light sleeper traveling companion was bothered by neighbors engaged in an argument one night, but I didn’t hear a thing. As everywhere in Greece, you can’t flush toilet paper down the toilet; instead, you throw it away in convenient covered trash; ask where to throw it away. The apartment building itself is locked, a nice safety feature. The location is a convenient few minutes’ walk from either Omonia or Metxourgeio metro station and it’s only a few stops to the Acropolis or more to Piraeus , and taxis are everywhere. Only be aware of the neighborhood outside of daylight hours. The first afternoon/ summer evening in daylight, we had a short walk over to a traditional tavern suggested called Rosalia and had delicious authentic Greek food ever! However, the walk back was after dark, so what had been a lively and pleasant area with shops and taverns on the way there was now less than savory. One taxi driver told us our area was known for “prostitutes, drug addicts and immigrants.” We were only concerned with the first two, but they were only visible after dark. Overall, it is a really delightful and affordable place convenient to all the tourist locations, just don't explore Omonia on foot at night!
