Despite some of the pictures you probably see of La Plaza Arequipa online, most rooms do not have a view of the Plaza de Armas. Instead, you can take advantage of the hotel's view via the second floor balcony. It's wonderful sitting out there for breakfast (free from 7-9am) or for a cocktail or cerveza (beer) in the afternoon/evening. Drinks can be ordered/purchased from the restaurant/bar next to the hotel on the second floor.
Breakfast included tea, coffee, juice, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with ham, bacon, sausage, olives, cheese, bread, fruit, and yogurt (I may have missed a couple items). Having traveled through Peru for 2 weeks, this breakfast was one of the better ones offered complimentary from a hotel/hostel.
You have to be buzzed in to enter the hotel, which is great added security. The hotel is a walk up, with a cool winding staircase. The staff helps carry your luggage up and down the stairs. They have 3 floors of rooms. As for the room itself was small, but clean and comfortable. The decor of the room was modern and pretty with great mirrors, chandelier light fixtures, clear plastic chairs and white linens. The bed was very comfortable. They have free wi-fi.
The only negative is the noise. For my room, the vent in the bathroom is connected to the main hallway, so you can hear a lot and probably vice versa.
