Wonderful stay
The property is beautiful. The game room was so nice to have. We had a short visit with planned activities so we didn’t get to spend as much time as we wanted exploring the island. However there are trails to walk and a swimming area that has slides and picnic area to enjoy. We had deer roaming the yard, it was very nice to sit and watch them. We enjoyed the ferry rides and it was very easy and smooth to get on and off the island. However there was not any good public access to the shore of Puget sound. The lake that is located across from the property was very nasty and a sign was posted without a date, that the lake was unusable due to algae. The island store was nice, super close by, and reasonably priced. Overall we really enjoyed the property and would definitely stay again. One thing to note, the dive-way is a pretty steep hill, I recommend having a SUV or larger vehicle. I car would be fine since it is gravel however you may bottom out.

Great place!
Very nice house, great place to stay. Lots of seating, both inside and in the different outside areas. We all very much liked it and would gladly stay again. It was our first time on Anderson Island and definitely not our last. A few caveats, though- the driveway is steep, and made of loose gravel. Can be a bit tricky, particularly if your car is loaded with multiple people. The bunkbeds in the main floor bedroom are rated for a weight limit of 165 lbs- so probably just for kids or smaller adults. The kitchen has rather fewer utensils and coffee cups than it should. The owners should consider spending a few bucks on adding some, just for the convenience of the guests. Construction on the exterior decks seems a little questionable. Not a building inspector but I can count lag bolts- and there are fewer than I'd use. The big issue I have, though, is with the pricing. The cost per night was fine, but the added fees were 40% of the pre-tax total. That's far higher than any other VRBO I've rented. I still rented it, obviously, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Just my two cents! Beautiful house, though.

Beautiful place to stay
We had a wonderful time with 2 couples and a ten year old. There was plenty of room if our teens would have decided to come and they had entertainment. Anderson Island is a relaxing place to explore nature with lots of easy trails. Not a lot of dog friendly areas though, so keep that in mind. We definitely want to come back as the only problem we found was our trip was not quite long enough. Thank you for a fantastic weekend.

We won't book again
The driveway was impassable, forcing us to carry all our gear up an unstable hill or uneven stairs with exposed rebar at ankle level. The trash cans were full and there were no bins to put out. One blanket for five rooms. Awful smell in the basement. All the seating is bar stool height. The kitchen is tiny, was ill-equipped and there was no place to put our food. The listing made it look like this was on the water. It isn't. It is one block west but there is no public access. When my car was damaged trying to use the driveway, the manager dodged and the owner never responded. Anderson Island is a great place. The quiet and nearby parks were terrific. We'll go back to Anderson but we will not book this place again.

Don't let the reviews scare you off!
I do not typically get reviews done but in this case I wanted to make sure that I did. I was scared off by all the reviews and was skeptical to rent this house. We had a great time! The house was clean and had everything we needed. We played games, relaxed and even got to go outside and sit on the deck. The kids walked down to the dock which is a short walk down a trail across the road. There were tons of DVDs to watch and we enjoyed playing pool and darts. We loved being able to bring the family dog as well. Peaceful area! My only suggestion would be to change out the bed downstairs from a double to a queen as it had plenty of room and would help many people better accommodate guests. Great house! I am soo thankful I chose to try it regardless of the previous reviews and we will be back again!

Overall it was fine, but with some important oversights
The house is large and accommodating. The bunk room is especially good for family gatherings. Nice game room in the basement and a comfortable living room with comfy couches. We did not experience the cleanliness issues others have noted. Overall we found the place clean and tidy. The only cleanliness issue is just a general need for touch up paint and repairs. I would leave a five star review except for some items that should be easy fixes but have not been addressed in this house for some reason: - Dishwasher not screwed into the counter, so it flops all over the place and difficult to use. This is a 30 second repair with a drill and two screws. Please fix. - The sheets, while clean, were *terrible*. They were the cheapest sheets from the discount rack at Target, and were kind of worn out to boot. A slightly higher quality set of sheets on each bed would go a long way. Don't need 600 thread count Egyptian cotton, but just slightly better. - Speaking of bedding, the blankets were also worn and too thin for the winter. Worth an upgrade. - The toaster... I know this is silly, but the toaster was hilariously not good. Just replace it! It's like $10! - Would be nice to have a larger collection of cutlery. For a house billed to accommodate large groups, there should be a lot of forks, knives and spoons so you don't have to run the dishwasher as often. Just a thought. Lastly, note that the house is constructed such that it's not well sound insulated. Thin walls and doors, so it is easy to hear what's going on floor-to-floor. Wasn't a problem for us, but FYI.

Absolutely not recommend!!
Me and my family stayed here for 3 days over the weekend. We came here to have fun in the water with our 5 kids, and we knew it was dog friendly. When we arrived, our minivan couldn't go up to the entrance. The car was dirty with gravel and sand, and the huge hill makes it difficult for the car to climb. We eventually parked downstairs and carried our luggage up the steep stairs. This stairway was impassable due to the raw blackberries, and we were able to climb it after removing the surrounding blackberries with the hatchet we took with us. Also at the end of the stairs there was an iron core which was very dangerous for the children and one of my children fell here and punctured her knee. The house smelled bad, it smelled like dog urine, and I couldn't even sit on the sofa because of the smell of dogs. All the big window screens were broken, so we visited on the hottest day of the year and we couldn't even open the windows because of mosquitoes. There was no air conditioning here. There was broken light on the narrow stairs going downstairs, so I needed a flashlight every time I went there, and the bathroom at the end of the stairs was not cleaned and someone pooped. It was a house we picked for swimming, but there were not enough towels and there was no soap. I've been to several vacation homes, but I can't find any description of the house anywhere, and the manager hasn't even been contacted. A house that couldn't communicate with anyone and couldn't deal with problems. For your own safety, think twice before visiting here.

Great spot for a quiet family getaway
We were excited given the overall good ratings, though a bit apprehensive due to some recent negative reviews. When we arrived our concerns were alleviated as everything was in good shape. The place was clean and the amenities were good. My family had a great vacation here. We agree with the two points made in other reviews that the place needs more silverware and the driveway (and stairway to the yard) is quite steep. There is a bonus parking spot at the bottom of the driveway we used for the one car we used to get around the island so we had to manage the driveway only upon entry and exit. The beaches and parks are great and we enjoyed taking the kayaks on the lake across the road. Overall I would highly recommend this property.

Four wheel drive and member pass needed!
Access to the home requires 4wheel drive to climb a steep hillside covered in1 inch gravel that spits out the back as you try to reach the home. And access to the 2 lakes and locations on the sound typically require member/guess passes or are off-limits because they are private property. The home is nice enough, but the abundant blackberry vines and thickets surrounding it are not.

Great opportunity
There are some fun activities on the island. The house was a little lacking. It is advertised for 12 but had plates for 9 and silverware for 6 or 8. It needs some TLC in the kitchen. The driveway is very step and almost needs a 4 wheel drive. House has nice decks and game room.

So Much Potential...Fell so, SO, Short....
Good things first: Great location, lake was beautiful, kayaks, lots of communal space. The Full Picture: The lack of cleanliness is unlike anything I have ever seen. There is damage to walls and doors-really just everywhere. Screen doors fell off, chairs fall apart, porch railings flimsy, we really hesitated to touch anything for fear it would just collapse. Please take special notice of the hooks holding the kayaks! Beds were super uncomfortable spring mattresses and not the sizes listed. There were no queen beds-they were all fulls/doubles. They all need a memory foam mattress topper. Linens provided were limited and the sheets were scratchy. The cleaning.... It is really hard to express the level of uncleanliness of this house. Our duvet had no duvet cover and it had pubic hair and feces smeared on it. I took pictures and contacted the manager about this and she asked if I wanted her to send someone over or if I would clean it. No apologies, nothing. Our nightstand table had dried soda spilled all over, the sinks were clogged and we found other people's belongings under the beds and throughout the house. Downstairs smelled horribly of mold. They didn't even provide any cleaning supplies for guests to use, not even surface spray. The pictures do not accurately portray the space. The space is actually quite small. Front door opened into the kitchen, coming very close to the oven.. Kitchen is meagerly stocked with simple basics left wanting. Knives were comically dull. Bring extra cups, plates, bar towels, etc. There was a single children's life jacket. Several games and items listed were not present, such as the disk golf set up. THE DRIVEWAY IS STEEP! No seriously, it may not look like it at first, but our camper van sustained substantial damage to the underside and we have yet to hear back from Vacasa on our insurance claim. The Subaru Outback behind us even bottomed out. Recommend stopping before the driveway and evaluating the best route up. For some vehicles it will not be possible. Vacasa, the management company was neglectful, had poor communication and were overall the downfall of this rental. It has so much potential, but needs attention and care they are not willing to put in. Will never stay at a Vacasa home again.

Great Dog-Friendly House
The house is very private, easy access to the lake and dock, and in a fun and quiet community. We were there on a rare hot, sunny April weekend, and spent hours out on the lake. There were kayaks available for use and it was a short trip down to the lake. The house itself had ample sleeping room and the porch was great. The kitchen was standard and all appliances worked, but very bare bones with utensils, plates, bowls, glasses, etc. If the property managers are reading this, please provide more of everything, particularly actual glass ware. Also, it is missing a wine opener. Other than that, we recommend it highly for families with dogs that love being on a lake.

Nice comfortable home but lack of communication
Overall, we had a great time. The house was comfortable and fit our group. The kitchen was sufficient. There was enough seating. The location was great. There were enough towels and bedding for everyone. The firepit was really nice. But there were some issues. As others reported, there weren't extra trash bags or tp. We brought extras. It was a little dirty when we showed up, and there was an odd smell upstairs. By the end of the trip (5 days), there was some black fuzz/fur/hair floating around the main floor. The dart board only had one dart. Many of the chairs were wobbly and/or missing support beams. There were signs at every park and lake nearby saying it was for members only. We weren't sure if we counted as members. We also weren't sure on the check out procedures since there was nothing in the listing or at the house. When I tried to get a hold of anyone, it took multiple days. First I emailed on Sunday. Then I called on Monday or Tuesday, to the housekeeper. It wasn't until Tuesday morning that I texted the housekeeper and got a reply. We were able to use the kayaks after some texts exchanged but it was on our last day and there was only one child lifejacket, which put a damper on it a little as we could only allow one child to go at a time. A book with amenities and check out procedures, even if they're minimal, would have been nice. They did resolve an issue with the heaters on our first day there very quickly. I'm not sure why the other issues didn't work out. They also dropped off some wood and smores supplies. So overall, a great stay. A few things just need attention.

Great house, however ...
Pardon the long review, but want to be helpful and thorough with our comments. HOUSE -- It was wonderful. Really a nice house and pretty much as described in the listing. It is in good shape and is definitely one that is well designed for a dog. We didn't notice any of the problems described in earlier reviews. I loved the setting. The biggest negative was that there was no "guest book" that described quirks of the house or island. Finding the main thermostat was difficult (it's in the basement), the internet and TV gave us some problems, and we had to search to find lake access to the noted fishing (there doesn't appear to be options from the shore other than a small dock). These would have all been made much easier with a guest book that pointed out quirks of the house, places to go, tips on the ferry, etc. (Note: Be sure to visit Anderson Marine Park -- www.anderson-island.org/parks/andymarine.html) FERRY -- We aren't accustomed to using a ferry so it was different than expected. You can't just show up 20 minutes before the ferry and be assured of getting on. Twice we showed up 30-35 minutes early and there were too many cars ahead of us, so we had to wait an extra hour for the next one. If you plan to use the house as a base to visit other areas off-island, know that the ferry will eat up a lot of time (both waiting and riding) and will dictate your schedule. Fully understanding that now, we would have picked a different house. Also note that the ferry fees are for round trip tickets. (The Pierce County website says this, but it's in small type and not obvious.) MANAGEMENT -- This listing is managed through VACASA. The communications with VACASA through the VRBO program was very poor. We sent 4 emails with a question about our trip (adding a dog) over the course of a week and we never got a response. On the day of the trip, they texted me at 2 p.m., when we were already in line at the ferry to arrive at the 4 p.m. check-in time. They said that we couldn't check in until after 6 p.m. due to cleaning. After I pushed back, Theresa with VACASA offered a credit for dinner which was appreciated. She was responsive to texts after that and very helpful, but we never got a response through the VRBO site. I probably won't book a house managed through VACASA again. Overall, loved the house and island and we enjoyed ourselves. It just could have been better with a few minor changes. Hope this long review is helpful.

great retreat
After reading some of the past reviews, we can see how a dog friendly home (and this one is! the on site kennel is amazing) may be a turn off for some, but this was great for us. We worried little about the fact that we are always covered in dog hair, as this place was great for our dog and easy to clean up her hair with the resources provided. If you are sensitive to animals or houses with animals, this is admittedly, probably not for you. However, if you dont mind a house that has a faint 'dog' smell in certain areas only, you will be in heaven. despite having no tv or wifi thanks to recent storms, this was still a perfect get away. The home has pretty much everything you need, except clothes/food. We cooked there comfortably, and enjoied the local take out - which was great! We will be booking another stay here - we are already planning it.

Disappointing- we left a day early.
I hate to leave bad reviews on anything but we were sadly pretty disappointed with our stay here. We hoped for a relaxing getaway with our parents for Christmas, but chose to leave early. The upstairs carpet in both rooms smelled like urine. Several lightbulbs were out. The dishwasher was out of order and Vacasa only supplied one half roll of paper towels and the one kitchen trash bag in the trash- it would have been nice to know these things ahead of time to plan. Several dishes in the cabinets were still dirty and sticky and the knives were extremely dull. One of the upstairs beds was so uncomfortable, we had really poor sleep. Be aware that although it has the capacity to sleep several people, there are only 5 seats at the table. This home supplied tons of movies, a few magazines, and several board games in addition to a pool table in the basement. We enjoyed walking around Anderson Island while we stayed, but the home itself was disappointing.
