The lodge is set in a very scenic setting next to Lock Aboyne and woodlands which you can walk around. The property itself owned and run by a lovely couple who pretty much seem to do everything themselves. The decor is dated and old fashioned but if you like golf this is a great option as the course setting is fabulous …it’s a 9 hole set over a huge expanse with inclines and some difficult hazards. We ate at the lodge one night and boat inn restaurant the next which is a 10 min drive down the road …breakfast was simple but freshly made …
Room was good along with breakfast. Found it hard to relax due to the military style timed schedule we were forced into for Spa package. We were put off using the massage chairs and bed because a member of staff was found to be patronising and unpleasant to deal with. We were expected to go to the bar in our dressing gowns wet to find her so she could explain the function of the beds. Would have been better to be shown how to use all facilities at the beginning of session and just being left to it. I expected this type of relaxation given the money we paid.

We felt the room being and ex spa treatment room wasn’t fair for the price as it’s not bedroom standard we banged our heads several times off the slanted ceiling. When asked to use the facilities it was always a no and could not have a coffee at anytime of the day. Staff lovely. When booking we were under the impression as it states spa retreat and looks this way from the website too. We were booking to gain a little break so it looked as if we could have treatments. When booking as said over all disappointing as this is the reason we booked here. Also felt £25 to use the hot tub and sauna was very expensive.
Plus point Amazing Loch views from hotel room. What a find.. Less positive note is the food was very very very basic . The food was quite pricey but would have been worth it if it was off quality. Shame. Would not say 4 star either but worth a stay just for the hotel roomview.
We had a great time which was very relaxing. Staff, especially Jean and Derek, were always ensuring our stay was what we wanted. Can't wait to go back.
We spent our summer holiday here this year. It was excellent, Derek and Jean are fantastic hosts, the lodge is beautifully located on the Loch with their own golf course (you can rent equipment here). There are many walks you can do in the area , bikes can be rented in Ballater. We had the family suite (two rooms interconnected by the bathroom), with fantastic breakfast included. Had our evening meals at the property too, everything was great and the wine list very well chosen.
Me and my partner had a fantastic time at loch on the lodge. We had the gym suite for one night which had the jacuzzi bath and also a private hot tub. The sun was out and it was a beautiful day, perfect for being out in the hot tub looking over such beautiful scenery. Its a very quiet getaway and i would recommend to anyone. The one thing that was hard to deal with was the heat of the room throufh the night. Not sure if theres hot water pipes run under the floor in that room or if its just permanently like that but its pretty hard to sleep in such heat. Qe had a fan on but never made much difference.
Overall it is an excellent place to stay and the food was decent too.
