Stayed here several times over the last year and always had good service and very nice spacious refurbished modern clean rooms. That was not the case on my visit recently. Given a room at the back, with old, outdated furniture, an uncomfortable bed, bathroom old, outdated, bath panel peeling away from the side of the bath. Turned on the basin tap - no water, then bursts of piping hot water soaked me and the floor, and the water continued to run brown. I went down to reception to lodge my concerns and complaints and asked to move to another room. The duty manager assisted and did his best, but the whole process was continually interrupted by the resident maintenance man hanging around the reception, talking to other guests checking in, then started talking to me - emerging that he was drunk, loudly speaking slurring his words. The drunk maintenance man shouted at me and said there was a plumbing problem in the hotel, and had been all year and all the guests were meant to be advised of it at check-in. He also told me I shouldn't drink the water from the taps in the rooms. I was then given two bottles of water. I was moved to a newly refurbished room, but also spoke to the duty manager and advised him to deal with a drunk member of staff and his behaviour towards guests at reception. This is a Mercure/Accor chain hotel, and both the standard of room and the behaviour of staff should not be like this for paying guests.
