Sanibel is one of the barrier islands located off Florida’s mainland in the Gulf of Mexico off the southern coast of the United States. To reach Sanibel, visitors generally fly into Southwest Florida Regional International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers. Taxi, car rental and limousine services are available at the airport. Sanibel Island is 12 miles long and 3 miles wide, so you may not even need a rental car if you plan on staying on the island. Bike and scooter rentals are available. Twenty-two miles of bike paths traverse the island as well.
